don't flip out anytime someone issues a tough critique. Because while I don't want a reflexively negative nancy, I also don't want someone who's too pollyannish and "dogmatically positive," - i.e. who can't accept dissent with grace and maturity.
Having a positive and upbeat disposition isn't about always and only tolerating positive assessments, it's about seeing the best in people and situations when they're there, and then also seeing the worse when IT'S there, but then dealing with it honestly and with an eye towards improvement, which starts with a mature confrontation of both negative and positive truths.
I don't want to be in the fox hole with purely negative nancy's, but neither do I want to be in there with the "It's fine" dog.
