I like your approach, but I think I'd go with defer. If we can start learning quick how to bog them down then use our offense to eat up clock I think we are in a better spot to win.
I do assume we will score on most possessions and I also assume they are geared to - we slow them down and deny them a couple and we win. Sounds simple, doesn't it.

But in this case it might be a time to try to jump out to a lead on the first possession.
Who knows?
If we defer ... kick off and get a 3 and out, then that’s a big plus.
But, Field position comes into play too.
If the receiving team gets a couple of first downs then even if you get a stop you may see the punt downed very deep in your territory.
This is why college coaches make the big bucks.

Went over everyone’s heads. He’s asking as a joke because of Dak Prescott.
If you choose to kick, you are deciding what happens to start the game. They means LSU has the option to decide what happens to start the second half. And they would choose to receive. So they would get the ball first in both halves.
Nobody ever decides to kick. You either receive or defer.

Defer , always ... And try to win the middle .. last 8 minutes of the first half and with the ball to start , the first 8 minutes of the second half. Many times the most crucial minutes for momentum ! ( See recent fiesta bowl for comparison) .
