Feeling for Coach..
Nov 17, 2021, 9:56 PM
|
|
since he’s having a year that has perplexed him, even to the point that he’s flabbergasted, if you’ve read his comments today..
plus we’re missing out on more & more 4-5 star recruits than in the past..
and we are no longer WRU..or “We Too Deep”. Saying, shows you why it’s extremely difficult to remain on top, no less for 10 straight years with last 6 being unheard of at probably 99% of all college football programs.
But, if any Head Coach can turn this leaky and seemingly half-submerged football program around by 2022-23..then Dabo Swinney is the one man you don’t want to bet against since he has an inner desire and even an innate need to succeed which millions have watched him do for umpteen years going back to his early Bama years.
The guy is not only a winner but he has to be a winner down deep which is why he’s perplexed..and he’s even gotten back to hands on coaching and the results are being seen only slightly better but not enough.
Mark it down..Be ready for some executive decisions from Coach after this season is over.
Until then THE 1st order of business is BEAT Wake!
GoTiGERS!

If we had a QB that could pass at a D1 level we’re probably 10-0 right now.

I didn’t see any negative comment regarding his clothing in the above post, but if he played well instead of like a nervous high schooler, my guess is there wouldn’t be much negative talk about his clothing and jewelry. I think most people would approve of the swagger.

Whose job is it to get him to calm down and execute?
Nov 17, 2021, 11:21 PM

Answer: his coaches.
This is assuming that DJ is doing the best he can. By all indications, he is.
And if he can’t improve, then a capable backup should be ready to step in and run the offense.
It’s amazing that we are having these issues.

When he signed the NLI contract with Dr. Pepper and Bojangles then he is a paid athlete and the criticism comes with the territory. Certain expectations come along with being a five star, paid athlete.

Regarding those drops, it's almost as if the receivers are surprised when the ball is actually catchable...as if they're so used to the ball being in the dirt 5 feet in front of them or 10 feet over their heads that when it hits them in the numbers they are in such shock they forget what to do.
But so as to not seem like I'm piling on our beleaguered QB, it's the receivers' job to catch the ball if it is at all possible. So the drops are on them.

I agree. I would rather have Dabo than any coach out there in this situation. He has overcome numerous times in his life. His faith and determination will prevail.

We all get tested from time to time. This is a tough one, but Dabo has survived tough challenges many times in his career and life and has been better for it.
Great post, Bill!

Hello LBB ... passionate post from you, no doubt.
BTW, Dabo has already made one executive decision: Using the Portal selectively to round out the roster. Note that Dabo had, earlier this season, assigned D.Pearman to a new role. Apparently scouting other teams for portal candidates that might fit Clemson's culture and football needs are among D.Pearman's new responsibilities.

I really liked this post a lot. You can still be hopeful while acknowledging what the heck is going on now in the program.
Dabo is at a crossroads, but he will do what he has to do. The offseason will be interesting.

The key is Venables. If he's here we'll have a chance b/c

the defense will be as good as it can be. If you have a defense you have a chance to win any game. Offense can be turned around with a couple of superstars. If we had good (not even great) QB play this year we would probably be a one loss or undefeated team right now. I know line is not great but we've had bad lines before and found a way to win. Its just that we can do anything offensively... we're ranked in the 100s on offense in the nation. That's unfathomable and really poor.
But once Venables rolls out then it'll really get interesting.

Concur with your thoughts between the lines that Dabo understands he may have taken on a little too much this season.
And a different approach and/or different coaches in 2022 may allow Dabo to get out of the weeds and back to cultivating the program. Absolutely would not bet against him, but its easy to see he needs some help on O.
Glad to see you spending a little time in the neighborhood.
