If Scar looks more physical and faster than Clemson today

I know Dabo won’t do it, but Batson needs some new blood in the weight room with him. Go to an elite program and get an assistant who won’t just be a yes man. Someone that can bring in some insight as to what those programs are doing in the weight room that we aren’t doing (Olympics lift like overhead snatches for one thing).

Get out of moving the bar slow, adapt to new philosophies. So tired of seeing us get bullied physically when we play teams that can match the high school talent that we’ve brought in

Sounds like you've already determined that they will be

So no need to watch the game.

That’s definitely been the trend. Scar has used the portal and recruited well, we don’t have a big talent gap anymore. So these games showcase the coaching behind the scenes

Batson has been at Clemson forever. At some point you do need a change. He should have retired when Caldwell did.

Caldwell didn’t retire, he just got reassigned to a do-nothing “role” making $300k per year.

Batson is not the reason we refused to go to the portal for help. Dabo has no one to blame but himself for letting our opponents close the talent gap we once had .

You will now go and be with the devil for daring to say that. We just pretend everything is ok around here, didn’t you know?

The program is a smoldering heap but everything is ok. One of us, one of us.

Batson is the reason we have guys with great freshmen years and then fall off the planet in year 2. Stop listening to Dabo say because they have film on those guys.

Re: If Scar looks more physical and faster than Clemson today

If I’m not mistaken Batson is a disciple of the late Louie Simmons of Westside Barbell. Which is great for increasing slow grinding lifts like the 3 power lifts (bench, squat, deadlift) but doesn’t train the fast Olympic lifts like ###### and clean and jerk. I’m pretty sure most modern S&C programs for football incorporate both slow and fast lifts.

Re: If Scar looks more physical and faster than Clemson today

Nov 30, 2024, 11:35 AM

That is correct. Squat, power clean, deadlift, bench.

There is no overhead Olympic lifts utilized. Our speed and agility program is outdated too. Been doing the same drills since the mid 90’s

And if they don't?

What then?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: And if they don't?

2

Nov 30, 2024, 10:31 AM

We continue to see players have good freshmen years, fall off in their sophomore years, and listen to Dabo and everybody close to the program say it’s because teams have film on them now lol

And continue to get blown out by teams who are faster and more physical at both lines of scrimmage and at every skill position

Who is having a bad sophomore year this season?

1

Nov 30, 2024, 10:35 AM

Not Parker. Not Woods. Not Terrell. Not Barnes. Who?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Who is having a bad sophomore year this season?

Nov 30, 2024, 10:56 AM

Besides Pitt, what has Parker done? All we’ve heard all season is how Parker has film on him now and it’s not as easy for him anymore. Every game I watch he’s one on one

If you think Khalil Barnes has had a good year, you haven’t paid attention to him. He routinely gets beaten in coverage. Hasn’t made any impact plays in meaningful games

Peter Woods hasn’t been on the field enough to say much about him

Terrell is just a technician and has benefited from working with private coaches. He’s a great DB, he’s gotten a lot of work from Oliver Davis and coaches that his brother is around

Tell me where I’m wrong. If you think Woods, Parker or Barnes have had good seasons then you have only watched us play teams like Stanford, App State, Virginia, NC State, etc. Go back and watch Louisville and Georgia

I don’t know what goes on today in the weight room. I can absolutely confirm that in 1981-82 fast twitch was covered. The machines were pneumatic and resistance was as adjustable from 0-120 psi. There was something like a dozen machines to cover every muscle group. You went through the circuit with a partner and a card to record how many reps you got at a specific psi setting within a specified time. The football team would go around the circuit once and each timed segment was 6 seconds. Their PSI settings (resistance) were very high. Doesn’t sound bad, but those machines were the most hated machines in the weight room.
The swim team would go around the circuit 3 times, with 20 second intervals at each machine. I would usually have to walk outside and puke between the 2nd and 3rd circuits. The one time I recall football players being present while we cycled through, they stood there, gawked, shock their heads and said, “yall are nuts”. 100% truth. I hated those machines.

You ever seen Batson’s video where he says championships are won when the band isn’t playing and cheerleaders aren’t cheering? These games are won in the offseason. Our country club program has become comfortable with just talking about what we have done and we’ve been left behind in multiple areas, strength and conditioning is one major area
