I think a 300 pound lineman during the season we consume around 5000 cal, when I used to race bikes competitively it was not unusual for me to consume 4000 cal, and I was 180 pounds.
Here’s a fact for you, the average fast food combo contains 1200 cal, and the average sedentary adult only requires 1500 cal a day to maintain their weight.
Many Starbucks specialty drinks can contain as many as 400 cal. A…..drink…

Your maintenance calories are your weight x 15. I pound = 3500 calories. Easy to gain, hard to lose. Cubnik's maintenance is ~2500 calories / day. Go figure.

It’s not that simple.. 3500 calories for 1 pound of fat. Lean mass, the entire rest of your body, is a different story.
But the idea that most people need 2,000 calories to maintain weight is not accurate either. I spend most of my time between 195-205 and am usually around 3,300 calories for maintenance.

I’m 6’7, 270 and I burn about 5k calories a day between active energy and resting, I have to eat close to 6k when bulking just to get minimal gains with my lifting regimen. That’s probably close to where a lot of those guys are, 5-6k a day, otherwise you are LOSING weight.

After further thinking, I burn over 5k calories a day simply living, being large and lifting for hypertrophy 90-120 minutes a day. These guys at the same size and younger are probably doing practice and lifting so they might be burning even more than I am… probably need 6-7k a day. I don’t know how long they lift and they are lifting for power, not the purpose to grow like a body builder so they may take more rest time and use more explosive lifts with rest. Too many unknown factors, but my guess would be 6k minimum a fat like myself.

Based on our Oline and QB performance last year they need to eat 8,000 calories a day and chase a cross country runner 7 days a week.

Your assumption that m eat 2000 calories daily is laughable

If this were true, there would not be an obesity epidemic in our country.
The average man eats over 3,500 calories daily.
Some people easily consume 2,000 calories in one sitting. There are 2,000 calorie milkshakes, desserts, streaks, burgers, etc.
Eating for pleasure is the American obsession.
