A question for my forestry majors friends. What does an acre of mixed hardwoods go for? I know there are a lot of variables, just trying to get an idea of the value of the timber. I have a 50+ acre plot in SC just a couple miles south of I-20. Its in a swamp and it hasn't been cut in over 50 years, perhaps much longer.....I am out of my element outside of that.

I am looking for the approx value of the timber itself, not the land.

Now is not a good time to sell timber. The paper mill in Georgetown closed so all of the harvested timber must be scattered to other places and that has flooded the market. We were going to cut our timber this year but the price has fallen considerably. As advised above, get in touch with a forester and he can give you current prices. $12 a ton is pretty good right now. It has fallen to $7 where I live. We are going to hold off a few years hoping the prices increase.
