mighty overlord Saban wanted him on the staff

They're too stupid to feel stupid***

Aw jeez the only reason he stayed was b/c it was close to

Dec 15, 2015, 5:05 PM

signing day. God we're in trouble if Saban marks his calendar and hits up Dabo soon.

Who would take Dabo's place?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What's Romeo Crennel doing these days? Him, or

Dec 15, 2015, 5:07 PM

John Gruden.

If it would keep Gruden from MNF I'd almost consider it!

Dec 15, 2015, 5:09 PM

Cant stand his voice and comments!

At 1 time I hoped he'd go to usuc, but they did even worse with muskrat. He will be a gift that keeps on giving, and he will give us a lot of great entertainment on TN.

Was he drunk? He made so many verbal errors with his comments he was starting to sound like Lee Corso post stroke.

To me, one of the co-oc would become HC. Probably tony Elliot but both need more experience.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That struck me totally different - that he wouldn't leave

Dec 15, 2015, 6:09 PM [ in reply to Aw jeez the only reason he stayed was b/c it was close to ]

Clemson so close to signing day. Sounds to me by that time he was already hooked.

Before Dabo didn't have his own baby to raise into the #1 team in the country, he does now. Dabo ain't going anywhere even if Saban calls!!!

Doesn't sound like a guy who is just itching to go back

Dec 15, 2015, 5:06 PM

Not saying it wouldn't change in the future. But he had opportunities.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually it sound like if he was offered HC he would go if

Dec 15, 2015, 5:18 PM

he almost went back 3 times, almost sounds like he was planting the seed for the Bama administration, but I didn't hear the context of how he answered the question. I know a lot has changed but still ! Good thing his wife loves it here. I think he'd be foolish to go back, everything he has built here is all DABO ! If he goes back there it will just be expected to win and he'd be another brick in the wall. He is close to surpassing Danny Ford in legendary status here. And we love him for being Dabo. I hope he never leaves, but for now I am just going to enjoy the ride and worry about crossing that bridge if and when it happens.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and one last thought most coaches that have been legendary

Dec 15, 2015, 5:23 PM

HOF coaches have done so at places that weren't their Alma mater. You cant retrace footsteps, have to make new ones

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It seems to me...

Dec 15, 2015, 5:40 PM

All of these opportunities were for lower level jobs, before he became head coach of the Tigers. I'm not sure it really translates to what he would do now with the opportunity he has been given here and what he has built.

Go Tigers!!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It seems to me...

Dec 15, 2015, 5:47 PM

I agree with you ! Coach Howard was born, raised and played at Alabama and he is buried here. Danny Ford still resides here. There is something about Clemson that is unique and special

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It seems to me...

Dec 15, 2015, 7:56 PM [ in reply to It seems to me... ]

You are right. Any job, other than HC there would be a huge step down for him. Not to mention, he loves Clemson, and so does his lovely wife. I'm not sure he would leave now, even for the HC job back at AL. He is legendary now at Clemson. At AL he will just be another successful coach.

Don't worry, I heard it and Dabo was just telling a story,,, the price deal was when he had no job, rich rod was long ago, a he was loyal to the kids he recruited when Saban called, he ain't going anywhere anytime soon

Dec 15, 2015, 5:15 PM

Saban is an idiot!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let's all hope that Dabo's loyalty to Clemson overrides

Dec 15, 2015, 5:25 PM

his loyalty to Alabama. If not now, then eventually. There's not another coach that I would rather have at the helm than Dabo. Not Saban, not anybody. The man is as great a leader as you'll find and I'd follow him thorough the gates of h3ll if he asked me to. I hope he retires at Clemson and I live to see it.

Re: don't be stupid..DaBO "will" leave for Bama when job opens up!

Dec 15, 2015, 7:12 PM

so was Frank Howard until he planted deeper roots as an adult in Clemson. It's debatable that he has done that here. He has two kids that were born here, he has built a program that is all his own. He has taken this program to a level it has never reached. The Clemson brand that is Dabo stamped has reached a pinnacle. I wasn't around during CDF's days, but my granddad and dad are very friends with CDF, and they even believe as far as exposure Dabo has done things that are uniquely his own. Granted, Coach Ford didn't have internet and other marketing tools at his disposal, but Dabo has done things here that had never been done. If he goes to Alabama it will be retreading water. Why would he give up a kingdom to be another long list of coaches that have been there and done that at Bama ?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo is quickly making a move to Bama a lateral move at best

Dec 15, 2015, 7:26 PM

Once you've been at the top, why change horses?
And although money is the prime motivator for some, how many other head coaches do you know that have taken a pay cut so their coordinators could get a raise? I just don't see money as #1 for Dabo, though Bama would surely shower him with it.
This is Dabo's house...he built it, he runs it. What more does he have to prove, or want?

Dec 16, 2015, 8:24 AM [ in reply to Re: don't be stupid..DaBO "will" leave for Bama when job opens up! ]

My thoughts, too, but who knows what the decision will be when that happens (and I say "when", because I fully expect it will happen). I believe he will stay at Clemson for all the reasons you say, but it depends on what his dream is. He grew up with that dream, and he may feel like it's another mountain to climb. I hope not. He is a deity at Clemson. At AL he will be just another great coach.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think Dabo wants to be the 'Hatfield' of Bama

Dec 15, 2015, 9:54 PM [ in reply to don't be stupid..DaBO "will" leave for Bama when job opens up! ]

Following Saban is not a good idea.

Dec 16, 2015, 7:52 AM

that Dabo does the right thing even if it could cost the team a game. (Player suspensions comes to mind)

The Tide would have flipped a lid if he would have tried to suspend a "Watkins caliber" player during a power 5 opening game!

Re: FB Update: Swinney almost returned to coach Alabama three different times

Dec 15, 2015, 5:39 PM

I bet he is glad he didn't get hooked up with that fool Mike Price who left Bama to go to A&M and then went to the strip club with the university credit card.....what an idiot. Dabo could be tight end coach at New Mexico State Junior College or where ever that was that Price wound up at.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FB Update: Swinney almost returned to coach Alabama three different times

Dec 15, 2015, 5:42 PM

Lighten up. All of these opportunities came before Dabo accepted the HC position.

Dec 15, 2015, 8:00 PM

Feinbaum is just being an AL homer, as usual. I put zero credibility in anything he says. Nobody is more biased that that secheat homeboy.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So Clemson is having as great a season as it has ever had...

Dec 15, 2015, 8:09 PM

13-0, poised for a National Championship, stacked to the gills for years to come, reeling in 5*s left and right, clean, no external scandals, no internal scandals, no admin scandals, Heisman candidate QB, pipeline to the NFL, Dabo COTY, and so Finebaum asks him to reflect on the successes and the remarkable program he has built?...No, all he can think to ask Dabo is if he's considered coaching at Alabama. What an Effin' tool.

Hey Finebaum, does Saban know you've hired a moving van for him? Let him know when it's gonna be by the house so he can have his sh** packed up and ready to go.

Everytime I think this dbag can't stoop any lower he manages to embarrass himself just a little more.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: So Clemson is having as great a season as it has ever had...

Also, he is about the most ill-favored guy on the planet, and to be such an AL homeboy, but he is a TN graduate. What a tool!

Dabo and Saban share a beach house

Dec 15, 2015, 5:51 PM

So I'm sure Dabo keeps tabs on Bama.

Think the timing would have to be right for him to go there. He prob wants to win a natty at clemson first.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Since it came out of Dabo during the interview I'd say its pretty accurate.

I do believe Dabo will leave for Bama, but not for years

Dec 15, 2015, 11:19 PM

It's the same thing with BV. Both of their sounds want to play for Clemson and both of them put family above everything else. I believe, by the time all of this has occurred, Clemson will be ready to have the keys turned over to one of the OCs. I'm thinking Elliot is being groomed for the position a few years down the road. I'm thinking about 8 or so years.

He is not going anywhere...

Dec 17, 2015, 12:42 PM [ in reply to I do believe Dabo will leave for Bama, but not for years ]

All of those offers were when he was an asst coach. He has made his own legacy since becoming head coach at Clemson. He would have to start having some real bad seasons to leave. And if that is happening, Bama is not offering anything

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Somebody would have to be a fool to take the Alabama job

Dec 16, 2015, 12:02 AM

after Saban walks away, including Dabo. Kind of like "Nice job Elvis...now who's next on stage"? It will be worse than when Dean Smith retired and about six people turned them down for the job. That said, Dabo may follow the coach who gets fired 4 years after Saban leaves.
