Pagano

I had been hearing for a few weeks that Scott's return to Clemson was a possibility. Not worth reporting because he was still thinking about it. Someone close to him told me before Pagano's OU trip that he was talking like returning to Clemson was an option. He still has plans to visit Oregon this weekend, so I am not really sure he has any clue which direction he is going.
I've been asked - would Dabo let him return? I think so. But I've been talking to one former player who is adamant that once you declare you're gonna transfer, you really need to go ahead and follow through with it. He said it's not fair that a player would make that announcement, take trips across the country while his teammates grind during spring practice, and then come back. He said it's just not fair and while he would be welcomed back, there would also be a lot of resentment.
He said, "How would you feel if you're Albert Huggins, and you've been out there in the rain and the heat and busting your butt in off-season workouts and weightlifting and scrimmages, and then another guy comes back who hasn't put in that work? It would be awkward, and awkward for the coaches because then they have to figure out where he fits, and at what spot on the depth chart."
I get it.

Not transferring, but considering leaving the team and taking a leave of absence. Seemed to work out okay for the team and him in letting him come back.

chart concerns and was in the middle of the season. They didn't have to make redshirt and scholarship decisions based on Reader's leave of absence.

IMO taking a leave of absence to deal with depression and taking trips across the country are a little different.

whatever personal demons that Reader was fighting and knew of his depression. Like a family member, I think that they were all happy to see him recovered from his funk and in good spirits and welcomed him back with open arms.

This is the type situation where I think the coaches should let the team vote whether he should be able to come back. I think that's the only real way to avoid guys being mad or resentful.

with his brothers, let them decide if he comes back. If they say yes, you have to move forward woth however he fits on depth chart.
Personally, I'd love for the guy to be back, but not like this. IMO, the Clemson ship has sailed for team morale and unity purposes. Its not meant to be punishing, but actions have consequences.

Yes, he missed Spring Practice, but he'll be out there roasting in the June / July sun for conditioning drills.

If he does decide to come back...dabo should have a team vote on whether
Apr 5, 2017, 4:56 PM
|
|
They want him back or not. I agree with the former player in that it would be awkward for him to come bask after traveling the country while his teammates were battling on the practice field for a month. I could be wrong but I feel like it would send a bad message to the rest of the team.

That's the kind of thing that could potentially divide the team. Dabo and Coach V would make the call, and if they were to welcome him back, he'd likely have to do some things to regain his standing.

If it was voted anonymously

And the players weren't aloud to say what they voted then I don't see how it could potentiality divide our team . In fact, and this is just my personal opinion but if it was just dabo and coach V's choice I believe that would send the wrong message to the team and would send the won't message to our program if they decided to let him back without any player feedback

I think Pagano has enough invested in "the bank" to return
Apr 5, 2017, 5:48 PM
|

Graduating with no embarrassing incidents with in the program. He wanted more playing time, which is understandable. As for Huggins, wouldn't he share minutes on the 2nd unit, which for is like 1B. Hoping he comes back and finishes his career at Clemson. Don't really see how this article helps make things better.

We need the depth at DT ... let him work his way back
Apr 5, 2017, 7:40 PM
|
|
Let him hit the ground running in the fall and work his way back into the rotation.
He won't start. He was neve going to start with Wilkens and Lawrence on the team, but there should be plenty of PT available for the interior defensive line this season.
Get back out there and grind, Scott.

If he's indeed shopped, and the more he's shopped the more he realizes Clemson is where he needs to be, I support him returning.
HOWEVER...
...it would be with the caveat that he has lost his place on the depth chart and will have to regain it. He would also need to make a public statement - not an apology, I don't think he owes anyone that - detailing why he did what he did, and why he returned. Keeping stuff like this in the dark is toxic and starts lips a-flappin'.
Just my opinion, but if he realized the grass was NOT greener on the other side of the fence, and has decided to return, he's got more than enough blood, sweat, and tears in the bank to warrant a return. The guy redshirted and ground for four years.
Sticky situation, but I'm sure it'll be handled well, however it goes down. Dabo is good on stuff like this.

circumstances where he has to earn his way back onto the team. Like Deon, it isnt a question of talent or "making the roster", but like you said, a matter of earning your way back via the Grind

I have to disagree. If he comes back that doesn't mean he automatically beats anyone out for playing time. He'd have to win it to be in it.
