If everything about Michigan is confirmed

Then you have to put them on probation this year, and going back looking at the scores I believe they are caught red handed. Pretty funny over the past three years they’ve dominated opponents they knew they would have, yet got beat by teams they didn’t know they’d be facing in the playoffs. It’s one thing to learn a teams signs but it’s another going to 30 different games filming both benches. Makes what the patriots did sound like child’s play.

He will be back in the NFL next year. Probably as head coach of the Bears.

I haven't looked into this much but I'm wondering if what they did was illegal or unethical. The Patriots violated an NFL rule. I'm not sure if the NCAA has a rule that specifically calls this illegal. I know videoing an opposing team's bench during a game is illegal, but I'm not sure if it specifically calls out anytime or just gameday. I'd be interested to hear someone explain the rule.

If I understood the recent Pete Thamel interview correctly, the NCAA "rule book", as he calls it, specifically calls out recording signals being forbidden. We shall see.

It’s 100% illegal to have someone on staff set up a filming operation of other teams during games. They literally know exactly what play your going to run.

I've not looked the rule up myself, but I've read several articles that say the same thing - and from my understanding the issue is that the sign stealing itself violates no rule, but the in-person scouting of another team that you play in that same season is illegal. I think that's how they're getting Michigan. I suppose Michigan was combining the scouting info w/ the sign stealing methods, but it sounds like only the scouting info was a rule violation.

Yep it’s not illegal to use film to learn the signs to steal, however it is illegal to go to games and film

Very little will happen because its Michigan. The coach involved will probably be terminated but that's about it.

It is illegal as per NCAA rules to steal signs via filming or recording. Going to an opponents stadium, sitting behind the team and using a phone to record sideline signals would be considered illegal. The Big 10 is concerned about it and its members are submitting evidence now, i.e. ticket purchases, videos, etc. The guy in question is paid by U of M! Not a good situation.

If you think the other team knows and has your signals and you can't figure out a way to use this to your advantage, you shouldn't be coaching.

So what would you do as a coach to over come a team going to multiple games filming every sign you have and even the signs you’ve changed?

Spurrier was the best at it, changing the set at halftime and then again in the 4th. It takes 2 series to confirm a change and then the DC has to communicate it to the field, so by the time it starts paying off, he’d change it again. Also, if some positions have been compromised with injuries or a team can’t get pressure where its needed, knowing whats coming doesn’t necessarily help. Its like Bama’ with Henry or LSU with Fournette-we know its called and we stack the box and it doesnt work half the time and the other half Jalen would keep it or throw it. Shoot, Ray Charles called and let us know Miami was running it last Saturday in the 4th and we couldnt stop them🤷♂️

I don't want to misinterpret/speak for Memphis Tiger® but I took the comment to mean that if I was a coach, and I knew my signs were being stolen, I'd re-assign those signs to plays to exploit the Defense (that lined up based on what they thought was coming).

It is not the first time that Goonie Bird coach of theirs has been caught bending the rules. Old Mr. Khaki Pants needs his hand more than slapped. He is obviously a slow learner.

1 year probation seems light for such as egregious act

If sources and info confirmed, something akin to the SMU death penalty.
You cannot tolerate this act and must make an example out of someone so that you do your best to dissuade others from doing it. I am sure others are already doing it but UM is a huge target and Harbaugh has always been under a microscope for a multitude of infractions including the infamous pajamagate sleepovers

Not saying I disagree with you Mjc3194® I believe if this is (probably) true, discipline should be in order.
But since the NCAA threw it's hands up on NIL and the Transfer Portal, is there really any ethical foundation they can stand on? Lot's of players could get paid to bring their playbook and knowledge over to a transfer team...i bet that price goes up the more competitive the schools (granted i understand they change their signals year to year, but DJ and Kelly left mid season, amongst others).
You can video tape whatever you want at a game, so long as you are not a paid staffer for the purposes of sign-stealing...so i could do this on my own and post it here on Tnet.
It's a very gray area and that turd Harbaugh knows it... this is just one of many 'where there is smoke there is fire' situations that never goes addressed.
Also-fans be advised...'they' have you scanned and locked into a seat number in a databank somewhere.

If true, it certainly explains the defensive stats this year.

1. They have played a weak schedule. 2. The opponents have fair or worse offenses.
Makes sense that when you know the plays a bad offense is running, you can stop them consistently.

Yep just like last year, look at the stats of the opponents they knew they would be playing then compare them to TCU
