Does the conference actually survive to hold us to the GOR? I could see the SEC and Big Ten raiding the ACC... IMO if Clemson and FSU leave, there will not be an ACC by 2036.

This is wishful thinking on your part. The GOR is not something somebody just came up with throwing darts at a board. It's used in other industries, like music and publishing, and it's been around for decades. You can't just "get out of it."

GOR will die an inglorious death...as will the ACC. There hasn't been a contract or treaty in the history of mankind that hasn't been challenged when the need was there...and the need is truly there to unwind this Gordian Knot of Stupidity. The landscape in existence at GOR's birth no longer exists...and since public universities and taxpayers are affected, change will happen.

There have been plenty of contracts that were challenged....and the challenge was unsuccessful.
If you can get out of ANY contract, then why doesn't the ACC just get out of the TV contract with ESPN, and just sign another contract for more money? Problem solved.

Actually getting out of the ESPN contract is only half the problem. Finding someone else willing to pay the ACC a comparable amount to that if the B10 and SEC is the other half of the equation. Seems that unicorn does not exist based on what the ACC has to offer

The VP of Legal for FSU was asked what it would take to exit the ACC. The response was just the fee stated in the by laws. No mention of the GOR. Don’t you think she would have included potential GOR dollars in her answer if it was a major concern? The fact she didn’t is very telling. Have you seen a copy of the last GOR? Neither have I. Neither has ANY reporter. Anyone claiming to know the penalties of breaking the GOR are just guessing..
The only copy is stored under lock and key at the ACC offices, not subject to states FOIA. But I guarantee FSU and Clemson Attorneys have reviewed it and have it committed to memory.

Not sure if this will work. I am not good with technology. A very intereting article. FAU focused but equally applicable to Clemson. Numbers back up the value of both to the ACC. A bit more in depth than what was posted yesterday. I apologize if it doesn't open.

Clemson, FSU, Miami, and VT all leave together. There is then NO ACC. It implodes immediately. Clemson and FSU to SEC. VT and Miami to Big.

The Big Ten will not accept Clemson due to academics, and the SEC doesn't want Clemson. Plus, are we really sure either of those want to expand more? 16 teans is ridiculous too much for any conference, let alone more.

We all think the SEC would take Clemson and FSU in a New York minute because those are our schools and they are currently big branks in CFB. Same for the B1G. And it is probably true SEC fans would prefer that for the rivalries that exist or could exist. But that may not be true. The SEC already has the SC and Florida markets. Would it make more sense for them to go for NCSU or UNC and VT or UVa? Or even Miami since South Florida is a whole other world than Gainesville?
Same for the B1G. It has Rutgers and Penn State, so why go for Syracuse and Pitt? Why not VT/Uva and UNC, to go with Oregon and Washington, which opens new markets and matches up academically.
The only real motivating force here is money. Whatever creates the most money is what the SEC and B1G will do.
I think that when it all shakes out, Clemson and FSU better hope like heck that the SEC and B1G expand to 20 teams each. Otherwise we may be on the outside looking in an .probably end up being irrelevant.

Just because a school is located in a highly populated area doesn't mean anyone cares enough to watch them on TV. Just for example, Clemson is a bigger brand in SC than is uSC. The state of SC is not covered market-wise just because uSC is in the SEC. People coast to coast watch Clemson and FSU, it doesn't matter what the geographical location is.
Yours is a common misnomer. The SEC would drop everything to get Clemson and FSU. Heck if need be they could always kick the leeching chickens out lol.

What should have happened a few years ago, and what could still happen is for the ACC to merge with the Big 12 and create the first superconference. It would instantly have more good and great teams in football, basketball, baseball and Olympic sports.
It is an odd number thoughat 27, so ND has to go. Then you go with 26 or cut 2, so bye BC and Syracuse

Here is a question. Does the ACC actually need to have teams? That is, could the “conference” simply keep the business open and simply collect the paychecks? On a related question, if a team leaves do the remaining teams split the booty? If so, why would the small revenue schools ever leave if they can get raises every time another school leaves?

.... FSU and Clemson are leading the discussions. But, there are discussions between several schools in the ACC with both SEC and B1G. The end result will be that enough teams will leave that the ACC will cease to exist.
I believe the primary job of the ACC Commissioner is to negotiate the best deal possible for all of the remaining teams to minimize their losses.
"How do we dissolve this conference so that everyone benefits as much as possible, or loses as little as possible?"

I’m guessing two things are at play…
1. Clemson, among other schools in the ACC, are figuring out options other than staying in the ACC. Clemson (as well as a few other heavy hitters) leaving would cue the undertaker to come for the conference.
2. The ACC commissioner doesn’t have his head in the sand, so he’s very likely in current conversation with ESPN about renegotiating the contract before they both become bag holders.
I would not be surprised to see the ACC get a new contract. That is, unless Saban wants a super conference and if so, hasta luego ACC, we leavin…

With the money and requisite investment being so large, state governments will get involved. Private universities have a problem, though...they'll have no allies so, Miami, you have a problem. Public, though, have lots of allies and there isn't a state around that will allow, on par, one public college to have a benefit that another doesn't. Simply. Won't. Happen. Florida might not want FSU...tough. Scoks, deal with it. Kentucky...stay blue.
And no one wants to enrich lawyers beyond reason...so the value to all of this is defined as 'settlement' and get on with life.
The benchmark, ultimately, will be who is investing currently relative to the revenue generated and how is that return playing out. Percentages don't lie...and equal revenue in a conference model like the ACC is bad mojo. Even entering a new conference, there will be some stout understanding by all parties on what is expected. If a program can't pony up, they get bounced.
Reality...a big mess looms...BIG MESS.

The SEC and Big Ten are done with expansion for a while. The Big Ten would only take Notre Dame right now. The SEC only added Texas and Oklahoma because Texas and Oklahoma would have gone elsewhere if the SEC said no. When Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC, they both added money for each current member. That increase in value will be so high, outside of Notre Dame, no other school will add value to the SEC. After the new SEC contract, each SEC school is projected to get close to 80 million per year. I don't think adding FSU or Clemson will be worth more than 80 million per school?

A chart I saw shows the SEC payout per team toward the end of the contract is 100 million per team. The amount increases each year on to the end of the contract.

My question is did President Clements or our AD vote for or sign an agreement to the GOR? As a juror I would not hold someone's future earnings are subject to confiscation by something they did not agree to but was voted by other entities. Especially when there is already a buyout in place to leave the conference. However, Condo/HOA assessments have been upheld!
