That's crazy, but hey I guess it's worth a shot for him... He probably isn't going to get the basketball waiver for another year in college, but will get paid by the football team with revenue sharing. And then in the spring he can go play in Lithuania or some C-level basketball league in Europe.

never said he was. Said what he did in HS. I dont think he will Do any of it because of his back issues but he has this till something comes through for hoops in europe or elsewhere.

I know you really don’t have all your brain cells down in cola, but he wouldn’t be on a football scholarship. He doesn’t effect the ability to bring or not bring on a scholarship player.

I hope this falls through…our current tight ends on roster are skilled. I would personally take this as a slap to the face or any of those guys on roster.
Also, I think it’s time for Ian to just play ball in Europe or get a job like the rest of us…

We know Schieff is looking for a 5th year if the NCAA changes eligibility to 5 yrs. Would it be possible for him to join football so he starts a grad degree while waiting for the rule change, then rejoins the basketball team?

With NIL, and the MLB drafting kids as futures (like DJ and Kyler Murray), I imagine the rules/nuances have changed.
If I'm not mistaken, the old bar was "have you played a professional sport in any capacity". If yes, then you were no longer eligible to go back or stay with college athletics.
I don't see why he couldn't do this, there are plenty of dual-sport athletes already. Heck they don't know diddily squat at the NCAA anymore...just make it up as they go.
24/7 Reports he will have (1) year of eligibility.

That's my thinkin' too. This is basically the one last ride plan where he works out as a FB player in hopes that maybe there is an extra year added for basketball.

Good for him. A great way to stay in shape and keep focused on the goals he's set for himself.
We can always learn something by trying new things and and pushing our limits.
He'll be a great addition to the team if for nothing else but his competitive nature and leadership we've already seen on the court.

That type of success is very rare, especially with the number of players who try to make the conversion. I'd be ecstatic with a couple of meaningful jump ball TDs.
