Why do we need to know how much these guys are getting paid? If this revenue sharing is going to even the playing field and weed out some of the potential shadiness going on, it doesn't bother me one bit if a guy is getting $5 million or $500.
Also, has South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, etc. all published their information? If not... ####.

That’s what I’m talking about, why are they so interested in Clemson payroll but don’t have USC on r any other team.

I don’t disagree with the sentiment that this whole deal needs some transparency, but clearly there is something personal at stake here, why else single out Clemson?

P&C may be onto something. I've wondered if our recent recruiting success might be helped by more than the presence of better coaches and recent good press coverage wrt returning talent and CFB expectations.
As I understand it, all schools can provide some measure of financial help to players through revenue sharing. In the past, Clemson has seemingly "just missed" on some last minute decisions due to unknown or unconfirmed reasons.
Dabo said a while back that starting this cycle, we would be competitive with anyone, so perhaps many of the better players who would like to be at Clemson wanted a little sweetener besides the "Play well and you'll be rewarded" sales pitch.
I don't know the reason for our incredible success of late, but if it's because we've been able to sweeten the offer to a financially competitive (or close to it) level, that's great.
But - I do think that the Post & Courier should provide the player payroll numbers for USuC and UGA as well - and I haven't seen an effort to do that...... ">

The P&C is a big time coot newspaper. They hire a lot of their "journalism" graduates. The Sports Editor is not a graduate of an SEC school but his bias for them is self evident. They rarely reports on anything positive about Clemson. The editor is quite obnoxious about it when he is questioned. The sports section is not worth reading but is good for cat litter or wrapping a fish.

That's the case for The State and the Greenville News too. A bunch of coot journalism hires. Clemson needs to start a Journalism school.

I don't think it's a hit piece on Clemson per se. It's just because we said no and changed the reasons. As Mike said, it's something that's being requested nationally. The reason they didn't do a hit piece as you call it on scar because scar simply said legal et al are still reviewing it.
Actually I see this as a big nothing burger. Media will probably seek judicial intervention and it will hand down the verdict that university can keep it private. Then it'll be over.
If you want to use it to justify it's a hit piece, go for it.

I don’t think it is a hit piece. All these changes are relatively new and I think Clemson as most schools are navigating through uncharted water. What I don’t like is the HEADLINE! Clemson’s reasoning is fine it is the P&C headline that is off base.

Probably want to keep the salaries hidden for a couple reasons. First, you don’t want in-house debates about who is being paid more and second, you don’t want other schools to try and subvert you.

The info will have to be released in due time. Clemson is right to withhold at this time due to the uncertainty of how departments divvy up the funds. And it absolutely can give opponents a leg up. The journalist is being disingenuous (because that never happens) especially when mentioning South Carolina hasn't divulged details either.

The P%C is a McClatchy Paper, just like most in the Country. It's a far left organization, so you're always going to see them criticize Dabo - he's a Christian.

I don't agree with them singling out Clemson for this info. But they are generally a good newspaper that regularly scoops the State and the G'ville,S'burg and Anderson newspapers on stories in their own circulation areas. Your assertion that they are a McClatchy newspaper is untrue. A 5 minute Google search and you'd have known they're a private company owned by Evening Post publishing. McClatchy hardly owns most of the newspapers. They own 21 small, medium and large newspapers, mostly in the Southeast. Two false assertions in one sentence. Try to do better.

It would be a competitive disadvantage for Clemson to hand out a list of its NIL spending. Releasing the list would cause a recruiting problem and maybe a problem in the Clemson locker room. When all of this crap started, I wondered how coaches were going to handle their locker room if the team found out the quarterback was making $2 million and the offensive tackle is making $50K.

If I understand this story correctly, Clemson is attempting to keep this information out of the public realm by using some kind of private entity. Do you think they can ultimately prevail using this approach? Also, why is the P&C writing editorials about Clemson? Shouldn't they be requesting this info from USC also? I only get bits and pieces of this story as I don't subscribe to the P&C.

Clemson should FOI the P&C for revenues received
Jun 10, 2025, 2:50 PM
|
|
from state, county and city governments in exchange for placing public notices in their print and digital versions for the past 10 years.
And then blast it out on every social media channel Clemson owns and operates when P&C refuses to release the information and then gives the same reasons Clemson is giving for not releasing the information P&C thinks is owed them.
As a former member of the media, I can say y'all don't hate the media enough.
But I wouldn't call what the P&C wrote a "hit piece." Irrelevant, inconsequential, grandstanding? For sure. But not a hit piece.
