Pretty good addition with more of a resume heading into college than most of the rest of the team. Should be in the top 6 lineup immediately

Him already being 22 may seem odd

But it’s not that unusual for tennis. Lots of teams add 20-22 year olds who spent years playing in pro events around the world

How does this work eligibility wise? Does he come in as a freshman? I know in collegiate hockey sometimes guys will play juniors until 20-21 years old and then go play in college so they’re like 2-3 years older than a normal freshman, but they didn’t use any eligibility so they’re stating from zero.

Each case is different

A lot of times the guys who come in at 20-22 years old only have two years eligibility.

Last year there was some controversy when Texas brought in pretty highly ranked French pro Timo Legout, who was 22 and won SEC “freshman of the year”. Even though he only has 2 years to play

And for those of you who follow pro tennis

He’s from the same region of Italy as Jannick Sinner. Up near Austria. The German/Italian heritage region of South Tyrol

I don't know too much about these things, but is Manuel Plunger an Italian name...at all ?
Not doubting the kids nationality credentials , but if you told me to guess where a guy named Manuel Plunger was from and gave me 10 tries , I would never say Italy.

Forza Tigri !!

I'll stop talking about things that don't matter ...someday.

No it looks like a German name

Which is not uncommon for people who live in the South Tyrol region of Italy (borders Austria up in the mountains). It’s like world #1 Jannick Sinner who is Italian but from that region so he has a German name.

Oddly enough Clemson men’s tennis has another player from Italy, rising sophomore Edoardo Cherie Ligniere, who has a French surname despite being from Italy. So two Italians on the team now who don’t have Italian surnames.
