I watched more Clemson BBall

This season, than I ever have.
Always watched and cheered for our Basketball program, I just made sure to go out of my way to watch just about every game this year (missed maybe 4-5 games.)

I really thought this was a year Clemson could make a deep run.
We had a historically great year but a lot of the issues that came to a head in the loss today, was evident throughout the season as well.

For as good as this team was, they lacked a lot of athleticism. A good core group of players that played cohesive ball, led by a group of experienced seniors, but weren’t going to wow you too much with their athletic ability most nights.
The offense also had a consistent ability to have long stretches where they just didn’t execute and/or take advantage of open looks.

We were also a top heavy roster that didn’t go too deep into the bench and relied on the same core rotation, which was effective yes, but opens the team up to fatigue.

It became clear towards the end of the regular season we had gone ice cold as a team shooting the basketball and that rolled over into the ACCT and now March Madness.

Lastly, I think the loss of Hunter in the Louisville game was a lot bigger than anyone probably anticipated it would be. He settled the offense down a lot and got them into sets effectively, all the while playing clean ball and not turning it over.

Sucks the way this season ended.
I have the feeling next season unfortunately will be more of a rebuilding year due to all of the production and leadership this team loses now.
Hopefully I’m wrong.
Regardless, I’m happy to be a Clemson Tiger.

Excellent analysis and despite what anyone tries to tell you, those observations don't make you a CBB hater.

I don’t think this stuff has much to do with Coach BB.

Sure he could of made adjustments a bit earlier in the game today, but he was also putting a gameplan together for what he felt was this team’s strengths and best chance to win.

We lost him in the SMU game but yeah, you're right...hurt more than I thought it would. We were just not athletic enough and looked tired in the post. Our guards aside from JZ looked timid and scared to shoot and that is a detriment which killed us the whole game.

Well I want to respond to this in a civil manner

because you seem reasonable and not off the chain, and then I'll go away, cause I really don't post often.

Firstly, I feel you on losing a key player but this is a depth issue, you have to go deeper than six players to be successful. Yes, we seemed really "Hurt" by the loss of a key player. How'd that work out for Duke? They had the depth to cover it because they go much deeper, and kudos to them. A really good basketball team can absoorb a loss here and there because of depth. We don't have it.

But I have a bigger point or question to ask, and this is for many on here:

What made you think we were capable of going deep in this tournament, based on basketball skill and metrics? (other than a "great" W-L regular season, the best in Clemson history).

Here are some things that were pretty obvious if you really looked at what was going on:

Rim protection and inside skill (of Bigs): pretty much non-existent. Very few blocked shots, and poor skills around the basket. Schieff: workhorse rebounder, hustler extraordinaire. But not a shooter or very skilled scorer. Lachiness: just a bit better scorer and a good hustler and rebounder. But very few blocked shots. Both players play hard, but aren't particularly athletic. Rarely did we see an alley hoop play or follow-through slam like you see other teams. (thank you, KJ, for those years)

Shooting: basically one player who was an outside threat once his brother went down.

Erratic guard play, "checking out and checking in" a lot, sloppy turnovers.

Positives that held us together were probably that we played really good team defense and I'm betting our 3-pt FG percentage was among the best in the league, which is coaching and hustle.
