Any player that's good enough to earn a scholarship at Clemson should be able to find a spot on a G5 or FCS team.

Some of those guys would've just had their scholarships pulled back in the old days. Not everyone who enters the portal chooses to do so because they aren't happy at their current school. Some of them are "encouraged" to leave so they can be replaced with better players.

This happens everywhere.

Less players get a college degree because of this fact. It’s a shame.

Regarding the 6+ year players

most of that is going away now that the 2020 COVID year players are all aging out.
I don't think the portal is lessening the # of HS kids being offered overall. The COVID year shenanigans absolutely were because platyers that shouldve been moving on wetent, but the portal doesn't change the total number of players. It may change WHO has scholarships available for HS kids and push those kids down the ranks a little bit, but it won't change the total number.

I'd be really curious to see the breakdown between Group of 5/FCS to Power 4, because I bet it's closer to like 75%+ of Power 4 transfers get another offer and like 25% of the lower level guys get another scholarship offer.

I've read this a bunch.
How mad would you be as a parent if your kid did this and blew a free ride to a 4 year degree.
Sad seeing this.

Players from high level schools have options but many take steps downward. The Portal is full of fringe players from low to mid level schools and their options are few because they are not difference makers. Bad advice and dreams take away many, many chances for an education and that is the sad part of it.

The problem is a lot of these guys are the best player on their team and then they end up at a school they don't want to be at and then you have "handlers" and people whispering in your ear telling you that it's everyone else's fault that they're not seeing the field.
If you're the backup QB at Ball State, why do you think that you're some diamond in the rough and that LSU will be knocking your door down begging you to come play for them? It's so unrealistic.
If guys are truly unhappy and can find success and happiness at a new school, more power to them. No point in sticking it out for 4-5 years if you're miserable. But also don't be surprised if the options in the portal aren't much better.

The 110 Society has a finite amount of money.
It appears to me that every football player on the team has a meeting with the 110 Society Collective at the end of the season.
A dollar value is presented to the player.
If the player demands too much money they look to the second string (or portal in the case of Will Heldt/AJ Hoffler).
Contrary to popular belief on TigerNet...they are trying to build the best possible roster with their finite amount of money.

I think Lannden Zanders unretired and didn’t get picked up.
I was surprised how many guys ended up at UMass. Ladson, Reuben, Tchio and Taisun and their efforts got them one more victory than their average.
