For their new 4Runners. I thought dealer mark-up was gone but I guess they can get it for the brand new 4Runner.

Hendrick in N Chas and Bob Richards in N Augusta are the no markup dealers in SC

If you want, I can also put you in touch with a broker who seems to be getting $2-3k off MSRP on new 4Runners. You'd likely have $1000-1200 in shipping to get it to your door, but super easy transaction and you'll come out ahead.

I've never been able to buy anything from Hendrick in N Chs. And believe me...I have tried. I used to get some service on the 4runner done there...until they got so pricey I couldn't deal with them any more. I ended up getting the timing belt and associated widgets changed out in Anderson. It was cheaper for me to drive up and get a hotel room than it was to get it done in CHS (And Hendrick was the most expensive of both CHS Toyota dealers.)
Personally, I don't know how anyone buys anything from ANY Hendrick dealer.

On a typical car, they might be.

They will not play the “3% over invoice” game, so on a car with easy availability, you aren’t wrong. In cars where everyone else is marking them up though……like a brand new 4Runner…..they have a company policy to not do dealer adjustments.

It may be the same in other states but in North Carolina no dealership will negotiate doc fees. They all say that state law dictates they can't. Instead get them to lower their "out the door" sales price in the amount of their doc fees. But, don't do it until they provide an "out the door" price. And you have to make them an offer first. Offer $100 over invoice or a very low price they'll likely reject just to start negotiations. Invoice pricing can be subjective and can vary from one dealership to another. Today, most dealerships want you to finance and cash doesn't seem to matter to most of them. And, some dealerships try to sell all kinds of extras after you reach a sales price and then add it to the price. I had one try to sell me a lifetime interior carpet and seat stain cleaning package for $600. If you want something like that make sure you ask them their definition of lifetime and be sure there's no deductible per occurrence.

I worked for Hendrick corporate for a while in Charlotte. That "state law" thing is BS. They just all have a code of not ceding the doc fee, no matter what. Some certainly have more reasonable ones than others, but they are all almost pure profit.

Toyota is also the worst for ordering a vehicle...
Apr 3, 2025, 11:31 AM
|
|
1 - You can't build your own vehicle. Toyota builds what they want and you have to intercept one in your region that is close to what you want.
2 - Toyota's online configurator allows you to build vehicles with options that don't exist.
3 - Their model clearly works for them and they don't GAF about my opinion.

The regional distributor model causes a lot of those woes.

And SE Toyota is one of the worst at customer-screwing. If Toyota could revert to a national model, they absolutely would.
