The excuse train before the FSU game was rolling already, you could hear it between the lines. I heard the FSU main inside guy (I suppose the counterpart of our David Hood) talking about how DJU was new to the system and had a big playbook to learn and how syncing with his receivers was a work in progress but had come a long ways since spring. Well, what do you expect, it's the transfer thing, which is of course magnified with the quarterback more than anything else. But this is what we're going to hear about now, after the fact, from his apologists, which I'm sure are many.
But some things don't change:
rubbery arm, not consistently accurate slow afoot, not elusive not a great processor

me of his efforts at Clemson.
Overall I have believed him to be a serviceable QB and probably would have been better at a lower level. I remain convinced that his recruitment by our staff was misguided, for I think they largely bit into all the west coast hype about his talents.
What I do know is he played for a low tier level private high school of about 800 students in the most populous state in the U.S., a state with schools with enrollments in the thousands. He was successful at his level statewide, but that didn't necessarily mean that talent would transfer over to P5 play in college. Extreme caution should have prevailed before we asked that young man to travel across the country to Clemson. After he did so I think our staff was reluctant to make a change as quickly as they should, primarily due to his agreement to make that kind of move.
Then, I believe his arrival with NIL packages plus the loss to UGA created a malaise within the team, largely among our offense that hurt our program. Included was the fact we had a nice-looking, well-groomed, well-dressed kid arriving from the west coast and being mixed in with a bunch of good, ole Southern boys used to eating fried eggs, grits and gravy and saying, "Y'all" and "Yesamm" and you had a bad recipe. Fortunately, DJ retained his composure and good manners with his teammates, but I believe the malaise was set, and we saw the results.
I have nothing against DJ and wish him well. I believe he tried utilizing his talents, as best he could. I, also, believe we suffered deficiencies in his supporting offensive crew, and all the aforegoing precluded his eventual departure. I'm now not so certain that his transfer to FSU was wise, but that's his business, and I wish him well other than when we meet the Seminoles.
Some blame Dabo for the DJ brouhaha, bugaboo, whatever you want to call it, and as HC, he is ultimately responsible. I think our problem was of mixed origin with many among our staff involved. But I don't hold a ludicrous belief in an invinceability among our program leaders, meaning they are human and will make mistakes from time-to-time. Obviously, I'm not about to throw any under a bus because I remain extremely proud of our program's accomplishments under Dabo Swinney.

Wait wasn’t DJ the # 1 ranked recruit in the country? I maybe mis remembering but I don’t think so. Seems to me a lot of people saw him play at whatever level He played and every team in the country wanted him not just Clemson! I do agree He did not reach his potential and I think the play of his teammates played a big roll in his demise. But one more thing why the obsession with mayonnaise?

He was a #1 recruit on some sites and a# 2 on some sites.Dj a bum and bust and needs to never step foot on the field again. But he played at a private school that has been ranked top 5 nationally every yr for the past 10 yrs or so.his school didn't play teams in the county or district.they traveled to Texas,Florida, ohio.alot of the top players transfer to them schools.heard of Img,Bishop gorman,chaminade-madonna.thats the type of program they are and schools they play.dont listen or believe too much of what you hear on this site.alot of people just get to rambling on with no knowledge of what they are saying.

Just to give some insight, yeah his high school is around 800 people, all boys..but stadium holds 6,000.they have been ranked no less than #6 nationally.they are not a public school such as your local county.example last week they traveled to Florida and beat Chaminade-madonna...they are like a IMG of the west.they would beat any public school from N.C.,S.C.,Ga.,Fla by at least 3 or 4 touchdowns!!Top kids from different states transfer to play at st john bosco.so figured since you stated that what you do know is he came from a lower tier private..you are totally wrong.st john bosco is a top 5 football school every single yr.go do your research before you make statements saying what you do know..now I do agree with alot of what you said.i just read so much wrong misleading info on here,it just had to be straightened out.dj excelled while there vs all top competition.but he is now a pure bum.coulsnt adjust!!oh well he got his money.just hoping some people read this to make them research before they type because several do it.now you know. That St john bosco is a top 5 football powerhouse.Go Tigers!!!

Portal haters listen carefully

Disagree with transfer Qb claim. Too many Qb transferred and were all world. Russel Wilson, Joe Burrow, Quinn Ewers, Michael Penix, Jr. Caleb Williams and the list goes on and on. Tech out used the transfer portal compared to FSU. Tech 32 FSU 29 in last two years. Key addressed the glaring issues on o line and defense through the portal. Haynes King > DJ as a transfer portal Qb. Look at Tech since Key arrived; they e steadily increased wins and played better football every season. How? By hiring the best position coaches and using the portal to build depth and plug holes in the roster.
According to the NCAA transfer record, every team since 2021 has had a minimum 10% of roster and as high as 15% that transferred in during a national championship run. Saying the portal doesn’t help win championships is just plain false.
Having said all this, I firmly believe Dabo has earned the right to do things his way. I hate he refuses to plug glaring holes in the roster. How different would last year have been if we took Haynes King and Keon Coleman?! Devontez Walker, Elijah Spencer, or Dorian Singer? You ask what scholarships do you cut? The ones that left via portal and cut the nepotism scholarships out. Coaches sons. Buddies sons. Kids that would never see the field of heir name wasn’t Swinney. We don’t need 16 a year like Tech. Just a handful of legit game changing talent available.

The portal aint gonna help too much when you hire unqualified former players as position coaches.

Our weakness is not players. It's inexperienced Coaches who can't develop players. And you better believe that word is getting out among recruits. Those recruiting against us are using it against us. Recruiting is a cut throat business.

comparing Travis and DJU; required revamping the offense if not a new install in order to hide DJ's limitations.
