Heard something interesting today on the radio

Multiple people said Spurrier was interested in the possible Clemson job in 2003 until Bowden got an extension. He also said during his press conference that he was resigning and not retiring and that he might be interested in advising coaches (something to that effect). Dabo likes getting input from other coaches. I have heard (mostly from the WCCP, so I'm not sure to its validity) that Dabo and Spurrier don't actually have a problem with one another when the cameras aren't on. Would you be for or against Dabo or some of the assistants getting an offensive point of view from Spurrier? I, for one, disliked the guy at Duke, Florida, and, most of all, Second Choice; however, Steve Spurrier is an innovator and always seems to be able to find some wrinkle no one is expecting. I believe he could have good input should Dabo, Scott, or Elliot want to meet with him after the season, but I really, REALLY dislike the guy. What are your opinions on this? Would Dabo either ask for advice or possibly send some of our quarterbacks to do some of his training (he started as a quarterbacks coach, I think)?

Right, because he did such a great job coaching up the quarterbacks currently on that roster?

could he possibly offer???? How much higher could we go than #1? The height of a statue? Press meetings on how no one has lost their minds? How to drink more than you should? How to throw a visor at 6,317 miles per hour? How to get out of coaching to go play golf?

Spurrier is not Clemson material. Never has been and never will be. I don't care how many NC's he's won at Florida or whatever. He is not the type of CHARACTER Clemson wants, or needs to deal with. I hated him at Duke, Florida, the Skins, and at USC, which was a match made in heaven for him. But Clemson? No way. He's not our type.

I hope not. Steve Spurrier said some bad things about Clemson when the probation came down in the 80's and was added to by the ACC. SS was at Duke then.

As a coach, this happens all of the time. There is always something to learn. While we, as fans, can't stand the opposing coach, as coaches, it is just business. Yeah Dabo and Spurrier took jabs at each other. Like any rivalry should. However, when the camera turns off (or the game is over) you are still two guys doing a job and nothing should be taken personally. If I was Dabo, even at #1 in the country, I would still be trying to learn any and everything I can. I can't count the number of times I have seen head coaches of state championship teams sitting in clinic sessions in Greenville of coaches of teams that barely had over a .500 record the year before. Once you stop learning, you stop doing everything you can to help your kids.

Heck NO!!! Spurrier was a good seat of his britches play

caller when he had great players, but I'd take Dabo any day as far as organizing a team, hiring competent assistants, and doing the things required to build and maintain a top rated program. Spurrier combined a talent for the feel of the game along with being in the right place at the right time where he got great players. You can't teach a "feel for the game", so I don't think there is anything that Spurrier could help Dabo with.

This reminds me of many years ago I heard an telephone interview with Frank Howard, while Bear Bryant was on the line...Howard said that Bryant had called him looking for a job during their early years and the best thing he ever did was turn him down. Said (Howard) would have ended up with a knife in his back within 3 years, Bryant would have taken over and the NCAA would have put Clemson on probation for life within another 5 years...
Bryant couldn't talk for laughing on the other end of the phone...
