Big difference between Dabo and Brownell
Feb 11, 2013, 12:29 AM

In Dabo's 3rd season he won the ACC, and while that can't be expected by our basketball team, they certainly haven't done much. I give Brownell one more year, if he hasn't gotten back to where Purnell left us in the NCAA tourney, he's gone.

The fact that you're 15 isn't much of a surprise. When you grow up, you won't make comments that are not only harmful, but uninformed as well.

the biggest difference is Dabo recruits very well

of course, he's got a lot more to work with as the coach of Clemson Football rather than Clemson Basketball, but that's the biggest difference. Nobody thinks Brownell is a bad Xs and Os coach, but he just doesn't have the talent he needs on the team.

I think our young talent outshines the young talent

of the OP years. Roper, Harrison, Hall, McDaniels IMO are all better gaurds and fwds at this time in their careers. BB has had a few solid 3 star big men that haven't fully developed so we will have to wait and see. I also think BB's defense is much better than OP's and the offense actually has structure, we just need the players to make more plays.

BB is horrible!! To support him after he has done nothing in the time he was been here is a joke. We had a coach that had Little John packed with excitment. To give OP the boot after he put Clemson in the news and polls is BS. Sounds like double standard to me. He gets one more year and the search begins. Who are you going to bank on after Booker leaves. I see no argument about he does not have all of his recruits. They are still soft in comparison to other ACC schools by a long shoot.

OP didn't leave Clemson in the middle of the night, but we didn't give him the boot either. He left for a down program with a solid history and one ready to give him a substantial raise. I can't blame him for his choice at all. Between graduation and immediate attrition, Brownell is in a really tough spot. He's got 2 seniors who have been role players entire careers and no juniors. The bulk of his team consists of sophomores and true freshmen. The writing was on the wall for this season before we even started. Next year will be a challenge as well and then we'll know what Brownell brings to the table.
Did anyone forget how much he did with very little when he first got here? His teams get better from October to March. Given Clemson's basketball recruiting challenges, player development will be the key.

is facilities they have to recruit to. Basketball is where football was when Tommoy arrived. Serious lack of modern facilities.
We MUST make a commitment to basketball or forget getting the players that will take us to the upper echelons of the ACC and be content with mediocrity.

It might be productive to examine the difference in the football program and the BB program, historically speaking. I don't think you can expect Dabo's success in football for Brownell in BB. It's not practical.
Historically, we've done nothing in basketball that compares to the success we've had in football. That speaks volumes toward your comment. Clemson has always been expected to compete in football and also expected to be in the middle of the pack in BB.
I'd recommend objectivity.

Brownell needs more than one year. He had some injuries this year. Give him a few more years. Have confidence.
