Question about kicker recruiting.

Who oversees and approves recruiting our kickers?
I know that we don't have a kicking coach and just thought about this. At other positions, I think the position coach approves each recruit.

Not sure, but Mike Reed is our special teams coordinator and I think we should find someone else for that role. I love Mike, I think he’s a great DBs coach and I get that we gave him that role to give him some more responsibilities and make him happy, but it’s not working. Beyond kicking, none of our special teams are all that special.

You’re probably right, sorry to hijack the topic. I’ve just not been very pleased with most areas on special teams. Feels like we could change our approach.

YOU MEAN THE LAST 3 KICKERS THAT WERE RANKED TOP 5 IN THE COUNTRY. THOSE KICKERS? OR DO YOU MEAN THE 5 STAR GUY COMING IN NEXT YEAR. PLEASE BE SPECIFIC. SMFH. RECRUITING CERTAINLY AINT THE PROBLEM. ONLY THING WRONG WITH GUNN IS BETWEEN HIS EARS.

Kickers/kicking is an interesting and challenging group. A lot of it is mechanics, but it can just be a problem between the ears of the specialist. We've heard the adage in re kickers, "The more you make, the more you make." the converses of that also can be true. The more you miss, the more you miss. It gets in their head, and sometimes it takes over in a bad way. I want our guys to get their confidence to a level that it doesn't mess them up to miss a couple of shots. Coaching can help, or hurt, that confidence, too. JMO, and no, I wasn't a kicker. JMO
