I actually think he is Dabos best hire since B.V.
C.J. is hard core. He does not baby the "feelings" of his backs. As soft as the team looks, a lot more coaches need to become hard as Spiller.

Maybe. Maybe not. It is tough to tell without knowing the inter-dynamics between him, Streeter, Dabo and the backs. He certainly has not provided the recruiting boost that everybody had hoped for. The running back room has been a revolving door with more good backs leaving than coming.
The question is who is responsible for those actions. The ball has not been spread around very much. How much say-so does CJ have in that respect? Is he too hard on the backs? That goes to opinion even if we knew what was going on. Bob Knight was a polarizing figure who was very hard on his players. However, he got results and the ones that liked him, loved him.
You also have an issue of poor offensive line play. Is a decline from YPC from Etienne's junior year due to the blocking or the backs? Has the line play had an effect on the decisions of any of the transfers?
Things have not gone the way Clemson fans had hoped in the RB room since CJ was hired. I think that most would admit that. However, it would be tough to lay a finger on why if we had all of the facts, and we certainly do not.

Spiller has been great. He cycles those two well. He doesn’t call plays, though. He isn’t afraid to do what is right in giving guys time, and that showed last year when they let lyn j walk instead of just letting him get all the touches. He’s created a special culture in that room, one where we can feel more at ease with having two NFL guys on the same team because they know the nfl will find them and they aren’t just hyperfocused on pt. The frustrations from rbs wouldnt be on spiller, theyd be on Brandon “Wish we ran it more” Streeter

I’ve been ringing the alarms bells about RB recruiting for 2 years now. And I was ringing the alarm bells because of the 2023 season.
Everyone always said we would have a three-headed monster (Shipley, Mafah, Pace). It was obvious that we wouldn’t return all 3, which means we’d only be left with 2.
Then, the argument goes, what happens if one of them gets injured? All we would have are low level recruits. Our last 3 signees are the lowest rates RBs recruits we’ve signed in over a decade. None of them were top 1000 players for their class. And Clemson was their only major P5 offer.
I’m desperately hoping that it’s not Mafah. But if it is, we’ll be losing 2 of that 3 headed-monster the pumpers said would be back. Our RB depth would be awful. One of the worst in P5. And can you imagine if Shipley were to get injured?
For 2 years I’ve been arguing that RB recruiting is a major problem. For 2 years I’ve been critical of CJ Spiller as a recruiter. And for 2 years the pumpers told me I was wrong.
If Mafah is indeed transferring. I honestly can’t wait for their excuses. They are going to try and argue that Keith Adams Jr, Jarvis Greene, and Jamarius Haynes are all stellar RBs. Can’t wait for it.

Was Paul Tyson a need? I understand the desire to trust the coaches. But what he's saying vs what he is doing isn't matching up. You need more explosive WRs. You need better cover guys in the secondary. You're not getting any of it, and he's doing favors to a dead HOF coach.

But I’ve been specific with me doom.
I specifically mentioned lack of RB recruiting. I argued about the regression of our WR. I questioned the promotion of Streeter to OC and his ability to develop QBs. I question our inability to utilize the portal and predict that it will hurt us in the long run.
At the same time, I make accurate predictions in the opposite. I argued that the coaches should pursue Antonio Williams over Andre Greene. I predicted that Wade Woodaz would be one of our best signees, even though he was a 3 star.
I’m right a lot. It feels good to be so smart.

A lot of people were saying that. I said the 3 headed monster wasn't enough to begin with. If Mafah transfers he will have done it with the weakest case of any player we've lost to date. A few posters have stated he's better than Shipley. Of course they are wrong. The portal is ruining college football. Every other player who's not getting the playing time he desires is not sticking around. You can't maintain a program that way.

I will take Mafah over Ship 6317 times over. Mafah just does not get the carries Ship does. Most football is played between the tackles. Ship does not and never has trumped Mafah between the tackles.

Rb is one of the easiest positions to replace, I still hope it's not Mafah but worrying about running back is silly. Clemson has been a finesse running team for over 10 years, if the guy has decent speed and can catch he will be viable. Travis Etienne was also a 3 star and he's the Clemson goat at rb. Gotta see these guys in orange before calling them pedestrian.

Etienne had like 15+ D1 power 5 offers, that's where I look when it comes to the 3 stars and fringe 4 stars.

You understand that Etienne has rushed for over a 1,000 yards in the NFL in his first year playing? Regardless, of his recruiting rankings Etienne was not a product of our scheme. In fact, I would say that his abilities covered up the lack of its effectiveness.

Clemson has made due with lesser rbs is my point. Rod McDowell, Andre Ellington, and yes even Wayne Gallman were all "average talent" that were productive. Etienne was simply the fastest guy on the field every time he touched the grass.

I've been echoing these same sentiments. I posted just this past cycle while we were all

The least amount of interest. Even if this rumor turns out false ( please let it be so ) this issue needs to be addressed. We are not elite any longer if we are no longer attractive to elite players. The same issue is evolving at WR.
That's mostly why I'm am advocate of getting Jeff Scott back on board. It would be a great way to start and instill confidence that the problems are at the very least, recognized

And I have several Clemson alumni friends who have been saying the same thing for two years too, just not on TNET.
This is why some of these pumpers lack credibility. They defend the indefensible in the name of "positivity".
If this is true, we are going to be toast at RB. It's not a recent problem either and completely on the coaching staff, not just Spiller.

I agree with both parts . Dabo has proven that he is a pretty amazing guy so I expect to see changes being implemented. I have no clue what they should be but he is not known to rest on his laurels.

FWIW all the Clemson stuff is still up on Mafah’s Twitter and he just retweeted Shipleys comment about loving Clemson and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else a couple days ago
Hope it’s not Mafah. He would be one of our worst ones to lose. He and Ship both wer way underutilized this year tho. Hope Dabo convinces him that will be remedied next year
