The “Overall” is important..85-88 TDs in 55 games is something in itself but add in his seeing holes & creases at the line..breaking tackles there and in the mid secondary..then exploding into 5th gear in a split second..also catching the ball & throwing it as well as being a reliable blocker in the background..
has him as my #1 RB at Clemson that I actually saw or watched in 66 years!
Yes, I saw some great ones but no one ran when it counted for the huge marbles and meaningful trophies like this gentle man but a giant RB when it came time to run through & over and slay the Red Elephants, Bucky Eyes, Domers or Sooners.
Thanks Travis for coming to run at Clemson on the very last day that a schollie was available and LSU basically shunned you.

No arm tackles were bringing that guy down. There were many many instances where I thought he'd go down and instead, he somehow stayed upright and kept going. And he ALWAYS fell forward. Loved watching him.
But for me -- no one made my eyes bug out with his abilities like CJ. He had several plays that made it felt like you were watching a video game.

He was eye candy often and sometimes against lesser brands of big name teams..and even with a second eye-popping game vs GT we lost..
While ETN helped get the huge wins in the limelight to get Clemson into the big national games needed to drive our brand to the very top..
CFP’s or semi’s or Natties..which ENT did on a yearly basis.

TE and Terry Allen were tops, but ETN more explosive. CJ more explosive but if I need 3 yards, Allen was the best.
Honorable mention to Flowers and Priester.

ETN functioned as an important part of a team where each part complemented the next and enabled the team as a whole to raise its level of competition, play higher stakes games, and walk away from them with championships.
Whereas CJ's individual talent was awe-inspiring but part of a team that wasn't to the caliber of the ones that ETN played on.
To be honest, there was part of me that wondered if Clemson was easier to gameplan against when CJ was here -- simply because, if you stopped CJ, you stopped our offense. With ETN, we had so many offensive weapons -- there was nothing one-dimensional about it, which helped ETN to do some serious damage when his number was called.
... and absolutely yes to the other posters -- Terry Allen was great as well.

This post here is spot on. ETN was on great teams. CJ was like Walter Peyton….great but bad teams….except 1985.

The sword cuts both ways. I tend to think opponents emphasized stopping ETN which opened up the other aspects of the offense (WR,TE). Have to stop the run first. Not downplaying the WRs on those teams, but would you rather have a your DB's down field in a one on one or force your LB to tackle ETN in space.

CJ had speed but Terry Allen and Etienne were true , great running backs with vision . I have watched some good ones Kenny flowers , Lester Brown, but Etienne are the top 2

Etienne is the reason Clemson won a national title in 2018. After Trevor went out Etienne carried the team, we give Brice alot of credit which he deserves but Etienne was the real driving force against Cuse.

CJ didn’t have the studs around him ETN did. I always wished I could see CJ play on that 2016 squad or 2018 squad. He’d still be scoring!

CJ is my favorite just. Because he was the one man show and had to carry the team. He basically had as the offense in 2009. With out a doubt the most electric Clemson player for me. With that being said ETN is the. EST pure RB that’s ever played at Clemson. CJ is just my personal favorite.

B/4 my time but they certainly were great ones for the time and helped Tigers to first bowls (Bonnie in 1939 Cotton played in 1940 with upset win over BC with great HC Frank Leahy Who left & went to NDame) and later Fred.

Agreed LBB. The guy had a 6 speed and great balance. home run hitter like CJ , but with better power between the tackles.
I don't see how this assertion could be argued , in good faith.

CJ could dazzle with the best of them. The night that he and James Davis wrecked GT, was something to behold. But for an ever down back, consistent every time he touched the ball, I'm going with Travis Etienne. There was a reason he led the nation in Yards After Contact. He just simply made you believe in him. If you needed a yard, he'd get you two. If you needed 4 he'd get you 5.
When we saw him as a freshman, I can't remember who we were playing but that game he had a couple of runs close together one where he spun around. I jumped up and screamed OMG, WE GOT THE BEST RB IN THE COUNTRY. How true that would be down the road.
Either CJ or Etienne are given the respect they deserve on a national all-time basis. Both of them should be way up the list of best RB's in history. Compare numbers and you'll see.
I'm also a huge fan of Terry Allen, Kenny Flowers, and Raymond Priester. RP, is never given his due but played on some Clemson teams that lacked a whole lot around him. Everyone knew what was coming but he was going to get his 4 or 5 yards.
I was in attendance on that NASTY day against Duke when Priester went for 263. I wasn't going to go but I was already in Clemson visiting with my friends. I went alone using a student ticket one of them gave me. So glad I went. Lucky day too because my truck was the first one in the line of cars that didn't get crushed by a tree that fell over on the backside of the horseshoe. Still got the ticket stub which I actually need to send to Raymond. I've actually gotten to know RP and he's a really great guy.
