play RB it was wow we got a 4 star recruit. Then we got CJ the next year and it was holy cow a 5 star recruit on signing day to beat out Florida.
These days there are so many stars on the recruiting page you need sunglasses. I have to look at the page just to see who they are again. Example I knew we had a 4 star qb from FL named Tucker Israel (with all kind of FL state HS passing records) but I'd forgotten we had another one in GA that is even higher rated. And I just saw yesterday we've already gotten another one for 2016. The talent gap between FSU/Clemson and the rest of the ACC continues to widen. That is why we have one non FSU conference loss in 3 years (and that was to a very good GT team on the road with a loss of our most vital player in the first qtr.)

numbers of 4 and 5 star projections has increased across the board.(I saw an article on this but I am too lazy to look for it).
It just doesn't behoove a recruiting service to rank guys with offers lower than a three star as they want every school to get excitied about their potential recruits.

I agree there seem to be a ton of 4 star recruits now..BUT still remember years where Yusef Kelly was our highest rated recruit..Also seemed that there was only one top notch player that Clemson would be in on and we would loose out to Tennesse and Fl State. On thing Tommy did was lock down SC for the most part and open up Flordia..

A better indicator might be how many of the top 200 players

does Clemson get. It doesn't matter what the star rating is if we get our fair share of the top 200. I think we are getting more than our fair share this year.

Davis wasn't our first four-star - we'd had a few in the past few years like Derrick Hamilton, Kelvin Grant, Dustin Fry...but for the most part they didn't work out - see Brandon Cannon, Tymere Zimmerman, Irvin Brisker, Roscoe Crosby, etc...
What Davis was, though, was the first high-end 4-star - I think Rivals.com had him as a 6.0-rated 4-star, the highest four-star rating possible (an inch below 5-star level), and he had a laundry list of offers a mile long. He could have punched his ticket anywhere in the country, but he chose Clemson...and he actually lived up to his billing, starting and having a massive impact from Minute 1 on. Spiller came along next year...and Ellington, the year after that, I believe, and all of a sudden Clemson was getting impact skill guys hand over fist.

The second QB you are talking about is from SC (Wren). The 2016 QB is from GA i think.
