The back-ups on the Clemson defense were abysmal. The only thing that lining-up in a prevent zone accomplished was allowing the Wusspack offense to march up and down the field pretty much at will. Allowing that $#!77> offense to score 28 second half point, 21 in the fourth quarter was inexcusable.

But Clemson got a lot of game film to study to fix the problem. I am sure the coaches understand this and spent most of the weekend (at least the GA's did) putting together the tape.

Ed Zachary. BigCU is right, it was abysmal, but that's okay. That kind of

experience is invaluable, and they won't be so abysmal next time. Better to get it in and learn now than when the game is on the line.

Yeah, the player development (or lack of) is a bit concerning, but we saw these kind of second half opponent junk scores with Venables too.

Giving those guys live reps so they can see where they are lacking is a good

thing.
With the portal - I suspect many schools are lacking depth now. 2nd and 3rd string guys try to transfer somewhere else so they can start.

It seemed to me that the drop-off was much greater than during the Venables years in similar situations. In particular, the backfield and lack of contain at DE was awful. Our young guys got exposed.
I'm hoping the reps will provide the coaches some valuable film to get these guys coached up.

It’s pretty much impossible to build quality depth now. Thats true across all of college football. Thats why you see many teams keeping in starters, even during blowouts.

Not sure about that. State played 62 players which was probably about they brought.

Honestly, I am more concerned that the starters were not particularly good. Their QB was like 8/9 at one point and they had several chunk plays. If they don’t turn the ball over twice, it could have been worse.
Dabo said it was 52-14 early 2nd half when the starters were done. Would we be happy with having given up 28 if the starters had played the whole game?
Lots to improve on.

"If" is not reality...reality is the defense made plays and earned those turnovers.
Also, admit to yourself for a moment that your team is winning 52-7. Not much left to do but go out and not get injured...therefore 2nd/3rd/4th string guys play some football.
As long as Clemson wins the game, should be what mattered. NCSU typically gives our Tigers a decent game, but Saturday was a lot of fun because no matter how you spin it, the game was over very early.
Yes the backups could have played better, and yes maybe the starting defense could have played slightly better. The flow of the game matters, bending but not breaking, motto of the BV era, is still being shown weekly.
Just be happy for a lot of guys who were able to play in Death Valley, and be happy yourself instead of bemoaning a narrative that is tired and played out.
