instance, 24/7 has our committed kicker, Gunn, ranked as the #2 kicker IN THE COUNTRY. And, yet, he is only rated as a 2-Star? Why would he not be at least a 4-Star "at his position"?
Seems to me the Star system ought to reflect relative value of a player at each position, whatever that position might be.

I could be totally wrong, but I think there is a different rating system for specialists. Kickers, long snappers, positions like that.

3-stars. That's what Gunn is, see below. Those positions are evaluated a bit differently... they'll go to some camp for P/PK's only, similar to an QB Elite 11. They may come out as the best or 2nd best or whatever, but they won't be higher than a 3-star for Rivals, ESPN, 24/7. I know, I've always questioned that... you can't tell me that having a Gardocki on your roster is not as crucial as any other position.

I think the descriptions for what each star rankings means is written in terms relating to how big of an impact the player is expected to have on the program.
This would be the reason why kickers and punters are never rated very highly because compared to the other 22 starting spots they have a limited impact on whether a team is talented or not.
Yes they impact individual games, but having the greatest kicker doesn't mean anything if there is limited talent elsewhere to put them in position to kick a winning field goal for example.

I agree, if you're the #2 kicker in the country...

...why in the world would you not be a 4-5*. But, specialists are graded differently for some reason.

Kickers get no love and many are not even scholarship players because there are games they are the most important players on the field. Look no further than the last 2 weeks of NFL games. Bottom line of "Stars" is coaches could care less and stars are determined by people who likely never played a snap but want to make money.
