How about same teams get in, same bracket, but top 4 teams as rated by the CFP committee get to choose if they want the first round bye (seeded 1-4) or if they want to play and not have an extra couple weeks off (seeded 5-8).

So same 5 conf champs (5 highest rated conf champions) and 7 byes.... just top four teams as ranked by the CFP get to decide if they want a first round bye or an at home first round.

Then the teams that are ranked 5-8 will fill in the spots with first round byes or home first round playoff games of the 4 spots after the top 4 pick.
