that coaching is one of life's great experiences. I don't know if I'd do it long-term. I don't know if I'd even do it again. But, as uncomfortable as I was with heading into this tee ball gig, I'm really glad it worked out this way because I wouldn't have ever done it otherwise.

A couple of things really broke in my favor because I do see how it could have gone the other way.

1) It's 5–6 tee ball, so the stakes are basically non-existent, so the competitive element that turns players (or, rather, parents) into monsters doesn't exist at this level.
2) There's only seven kids on the team. Very manageable even if most of them have never played.
3) I actually know what I'm doing at this level with baseball, whereas falling into this with another sport (like soccer even, and I still played a good bit of that) I would have been out of my element.
4) I have a great group of dads, and most of them are helping in the field or on the sideline during the game without overstepping. And the kids all seem to trust them helping as well.
Finally, 5) Kids at this age are so fun. They just enjoy being out there. I got this one little dude who I'm not even sure who get his shoes on the right feet, but he's got a big grin even when swinging 5 feet behind the pitch.
