I hate computers.

Lost internet service in my area (xfinity was upgrading area) for a few hours. Internet service was restored with no problem. But, my printer is offline. I did all the routine stuff I could do and nothing worked. As I type this I've been on the phone, and in a chat room with Geek Squad for about 2 hours and they still can't get it fixed. (I'm on my second agent now; the first one gave up and transferred me to a "specialist.")

Mine goes on the friz from time to time for no reason. I have found that by unplugging it for a while and then restoring power it gets back on track. Your deal sounds more serious obviously.
I went to use it this morning for a class I teach. I found 3 of the 4 cartridges were out of ink. I replaced them. Ran 2 pages and had to refill the paper tray.
It s always something with printers. I hope yours gets fixed soom.

That's funny, 74. It's a standing joke between my wife and me that it seems like EVERY time we need to use the printer it's either out of paper or needs ink. We've come a long way from the " make me a xerox" !

Is it a wireless printer? If so. Rebooting the printer might work.

I have you tried turning it off, resetting your wifi adapter, and turning it back on? I mean networks pretty much configure themselves these days, trying installing a modem in 1995, that was mildly challenging.

I recommend watching all episodes of The IT Crowd.
If reboot doesn’t work, I’d probably delete the printer and ré-add it, if you haven’t tried that yet. Could be some stale queued docs or data, etc from the loss of network.

I believe an “Office Space Beat-down” is the appropriate response.

we've come a long way with computers

but printer connectivity has not progressed past 1999. I have 4 3D printers and they never give a connectivity issue, but the 2024 HP laser printer does its own thing.

What annoys me about HP is that some models refuse to print black if you're out of a color you don't plan to use or even need.

I'm still using a Brother laser printer, that's at least 25 years old. It's so

old that Brother quit supporting it...when I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro a few years ago, Brother didn't have a Windows 10 driver for it, but I was able to find a third party driver that still works, even after I moved to Windows 11 Pro.
The printer driver will occasionally not open properly...I just reboot my computer and turn the printer off and back on, then it works properly.
I keep this printer in my office because it's so inexpensive to operate! It only prints black & white, that's all I need in my business. I use it a lot and one $65 toner cartridge lasts over a year!

Update on the computer.

Yes, it is fixed. But, the IT gal didn't fix it. After over 3 hours she told me to contact the printer manufacturer. So, I told her that wasn't the problem, and politely said good bye.
Based on all the things she was doing I tried a couple of things.
Note: I had done all the normal things, turning it off - even unplugging it - hitting the refresh button on my router - and a couple more things.
But, after I got off the chat with her, I literally fixed it in 2 minutes.
1. Pushed the button on my router and held it for about 3 seconds, then pushed the wi-fi button on the printer. That fixed it for my laptop. But, still didn't fix it for my main computer.
2. So, I just did what I asked her to do an hour into my conversation with her, "Can you just install the computer as though it were brand new and I just took it out of the box?" She tried that but it wouldn't work. I was watching the installation pop ups on my computer and I thought she was choosing a wrong option (how to print - directly from the computer or from a shared network). I chose the other option (print directly from the computer) and it came on line immediately.
40 years ago I was on the cutting edge of computer technology, for a layman. But, over the years I have just let technology pass me by. But, I sill have a little something left in my septegenarian brain.

It is a simple fix. Go to Best Buy and get a new one. That is what us Non-Techie

types do Bret. Just turn the old one into a paperweight, and get a new one. I do that about every 5 years. Saves me a lot of time on the phone with smart people, and I can spend that time on Tnet.

So you’re inferring that you can spend the time saved with “smart people” on Tnets.
