year. And they are obviously trying to get Jim Nantz to talk as much as possible to cover for the weak support that surrounds him. I'm thinking any decent announcer/commentator has been "cancelled" for one reason or the other.

I also grew tired of hearing "That's the same place (enter any golfer name here) hit his ball in (enter any year since the tournament started)!" without any follow-up as to why that statement was relevant. I'll go out on a limb here and say any shots taken on that course have been taken before...by someone...at some time.

And those trees falling...we're going to see more of that thanks to "view-scaping". You're seeing it around the lakes now. Make trees top heavy and lacking in lower balance. Think of it as climbing a skinny pole. The higher you climb, the more it bends.

It’s boring because the sport has gotten boring. The new or not so new guys now don’t have the draw. Couple that with crappy weather, and the tournament had zero momentum this year. Moving day was no existent, and scores were all over the place depending upon when you got to play on Fri/Sat/Sun due to trying to make up rounds around all the rain.

Plus it was obvious Jim Nantz was told to not play up the PGA vs Liv tour angle.

I agree on the shot thing too. It also hurts cause there aren’t that many new iconic shots of the last decade. The last big shot that many remember was the Tiger shot on 16. Then it’s like they have to go into the vault to show something like Larry Mize.

Look I like Larry, but that shot was almost 40 years ago. All of the iconic shots have been run into the ground by now. The 00s and early 10s brought some fire back with the Tiger v Phil angle. Since then it’s just sorta become another tourney. I also think them constantly reducing the number of tickets hurts not helps long term. Gives less people a connection to being their once.

There was ZERO things memorable about this year’s tournament. Nothing to really go into the record books or the vault. When your biggest moment is the fact that the Augusta Nash didn’t become world headlines with deaths from the falling trees you got a problem with the tournament and the sport at large IMO.

You didn't find the fact that the leaders had to play almost two rounds on Sunday compelling, wondering who would hold up, who would crack. I thought it was intriguing with such a large pack at 6 and 7 under with several holes to play, waiting for someone to break out, and no one could. And Phil's 65 at age 52, tying for second, and the prospect of the top coming down to him. The contrast of Rahm's quirky long swing, but precision short irons, his constant fade on drives, but then shaping a draw on 13. Watching the greens speed up throughout the day. I thought it was great to see Rahm win, he's a great guy and an outspoken advocate for the PGA, and he's playing the best golf of anyone else this year. I found it very satisfying to see him get the dominating victory.

I'll give you Nantz and the pedantic commentary. They should pair him with Charles Barkley

You make some good points - I hated all of the so and so made a similar shot in 1972, etc. I think Sir Nick Faldo added a lot to Jim Nantz's commentary in the past, His retirement really hurt CBS golf coverage.

Agree on Faldo. He was way better than anyone else CBS had to go along with Nantz.

It also hurts cause going back to 1972 is over 50 years ago now. You’re essentially saying anyone who isn’t 60 you have no clue about that shot cause you either weren’t born yet or were barely off your parents knee.

It’s also why I think it hurts the tournament because it was always about the history of the course and growing the game. Problem comes in when 2/3rds of your viewers don’t care about Nantz talking about the “great” Bobby Jones for the umpteenth year. That played well to the audience 20-30 years ago. The coverage hasn’t evolved since then.

I’ll give them props for having the single best sports app in the game though. It’s AMAZING. Stories, leader boards, a TON of FREE streams showing stuff all across the course etc… that other sports need to adopt.

Dude it was like hurricane season at my house all weekend with the dang weather.

Totally killed the tournament vibe and play for sure.

Not generic at all in my opinion. The other course can compete with the beauty of Augusta National.

Same goes for Nascar drivers compared to early days like Fireball, Allisons, etc..

or earlier day singers.

Totally agree about Jim Nantz. He is the best but seems to miss the musings of Sir Nick. Immelman sounds like a little sissy on air and try as they might, they could not get old Vern to talk. Bless his heart, they would throw him a line and he would not bite........crickets. Sad, because he has been one of the best for decades. But overall, I agree with you. The telecast was mundane at best.

It was different if you were there to watch Mickelson and Spieth on Sunday. Saturday's round should have been played in Sunday.
