Kelly Bryant is considering Auburn

Dec 4, 2018, 2:34 PM

Jalen Hurts can still transfer at end of season with one more year. Pundits have said Auburn is a potential destination.

The rumor mill is that Justin Fields in not happy at Georgia. Its not a far reach to assume Auburn would be a player with him.

I find it interesting how the "talking heads" or "experts"

Dec 4, 2018, 2:12 PM

have heaped so much praise on Jalen Hurts for sticking with Alabama and most likely being the reason they beat Georgia Saturday. Deservedly so IMO, I like Jalen and he is willing to work his butt off to try and get back on the field and when his name was called upon he was able to play at a high level and help his team win the game.

I wonder how Kelly Bryant feels when he hears all this talk of "sticking it out" and being a "team player", and not quitting on his team. You know somewhere deep down that has to really sting badly to hear them praise Jalen because it sounds like a total CRUSH on what Kelly did to Clemson by quitting. Dabo being praised for making the change knowing Trevor at QB gave the Tigers the best chance at winning the National Championship has to also STING. While I wish Kelly success, did not agree with his leaving Clemson but we all have our opinions, and choices.

Anyway, just find it interesting to think how Kelly reacts to Jalen having success while he sits at home watching.

I’m not a fan of what Kelly did BUT

Dec 4, 2018, 2:15 PM

Hurts is a completely different situation. If he sticks around at Bama for next year THEN everyone can start singing his praises. Until then it’s completely different from what Kelly had to decided considering this was his last year of eligibility without a redshirt.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I’m not a fan of what Kelly did BUT

Dec 4, 2018, 2:53 PM

This is exactly how I see it. the 2 cant be compared because KB would have not been able to play somewhere else had he taken 1 snap in the Syracuse game and he has already graduated. Hurts is set to graduate this month and still has another year of eligibility left. He may end up leaving right away or doing what KB did this year. Try to compete for his starting job back but if it doesn't work out leaving after 4 games next year. He could be saying if Tua gets hurt in the first 4 games next year it's his team from that point on. Interesting would be if he decides before the NC game if they get by Oklahoma.

He could of said coach, I will run the scout team and learn to throw the ball. Don’t play me and I will transfer at the end of the semester. Go Tigers.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Eh, not sure that would've been better

Dec 4, 2018, 3:37 PM

While him leaving was a distraction for a week or so, him being around and with the team would've been a bigger distraction I'd think. Especially if Brice hadn't lead us to the W against Syracuse.

Dec 4, 2018, 2:29 PM [ in reply to I find it interesting how the "talking heads" or "experts" ]

What some of you can’t seem to grasp is that this is a business decision for these players. Just like you wouldnt stick around at a job if your pay was docked Kelly is not going to sit on the bench when he has aspirations of playing in the NFL. Whether or not you think he can is irrelevant.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I find it interesting how the

Dec 4, 2018, 2:37 PM

While I agree somewhat with the opinion of this being a business decision for the individual players, that absolves them of any responsibility to the school, coaches, fans and and fellow players that help get them to where they are now. I feel that a player that was recruited, trained and educated by a school owes a little allegiance to that school. Others feel differently than I. I will add that if Jalen and Kelly were my sons, I would be most proud of the one that stuck it out.

So then if you find a better paying job are you wrong for leaving your current boss and fellow employees behind? After all they helped you get where you are no?

What about coaches? Should they never leave their current school? If they do they are leaving players they recruited and administrators that hired them.....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seriously ?

Dec 4, 2018, 3:49 PM

There are approximately 75 QB's in the NFL and approximately 100 in other Paid leagues like CFL(very low pay).... My career, there are 25,000 in the U.S alone. Argument you make has absolutely no relevance. Talent is seen by Scouts, not me and you. Scouts have access to tape, to anything they need, to practices, which means going elsewhere made little sense if that was reason. Does he want to simply play one last year of football, fine I get it. Not a business decision, not even close.

Simply playing on a team full of less talented receivers, blockers, running backs, will not suddenly make the NFL salivate over you because it will be hard to prove anything.

He is a college athlete and has a future to think about, but I never said he made anything other than the best decision for him. He had a choice and made it, without much time to actually think about it unless he saw the writing on the wall and knew it was coming which is very likely. Either way the idea of a business decision is becoming more applicable among those who argue for him to leave and play elsewhere.

Who says he plays wherever he goes, is someone guaranteeing him a starting position ? How does that teams QB take that, why demote him for KB ? Sure they can see the tape of him at Clemson, but that is with a TEAM around him that is the BEST, ELITE. At UNC, not even close to same level of talent. Maybe Auburn, but receivers are best in football at Clemson. Other schools are severely less talented. Not comparable! He is getting an education for something OTHER than football, which is what he will need IF he is not professional level at this point.... he could improve but who says the new coaching staff is in better position that Clemson to provide that ?

Dec 4, 2018, 2:40 PM [ in reply to Re: I find it interesting how the ]

does he take those words about Jalen as motivation or a slap in the face. Jalen persevered, he stuck with it, he did not quit. That is what has been said and at some lever KB has to hear that and have a reaction. He is human. What I said was simply my opinion and take on the Bryant and Hurts situation.

This "business decision" theory is interesting. Sure he will get an opportunity to play a full year somewhere, taking somebody else position in the process leaving them out IF he is able to beat that player out. KB was never a good passer, BUT he was a winner.

My take was, does he take those analyst words to heart or is he busy doing what he should be doing and that is getting better and working on his game ?? He quit on his team, no matter what way you spin it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I simply meant

Dec 4, 2018, 2:59 PM

Yes he “quit” in the sense that he made the best decision for his personal career which is something we all have to do at some point.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course it is

Dec 4, 2018, 3:25 PM [ in reply to Re: I find it interesting how the ]

Just like its a business decision on the players' parts to choose the school in the first place, and it's a business decision on the coach's part as to who should start.

I have no problem at all with folks choosing to do what is right for them (absent it actively hurting someone else) and I think the decision was Bryant's to make. No problem with that.

However, I don't think it was a wise decision (again, not mine to make for him) because it seems quite shortsighted to me. He's trading the chance to be a well-regarded hero in the Clemson community for the chance to start at Qb for one more year. Again, his choice to make, and while I wouldn't have advised him to go down that path I bare no ill will to him for doing so.

Re: Of course it is

Dec 4, 2018, 5:18 PM

“He's trading the chance to be a well-regarded hero in the Clemson community”

I’m sure it was a tough decision for him and his family....

Pursue the dream of making an NFL roster by transferring and showcasing his skills as the starter at a major program or sit on the bench and keep his legacy intact on tigernet....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL

Dec 5, 2018, 10:34 AM

You know well I don't mean Tigernet.

Like I said, more power to him, he gets to make the decision and I wish him well.

But lets not pretend that somehow his talents haven't been (and wouldn't continue to be) made evident to any scouts looking for NFL talent while he has been (and would be) at Clemson. Add to that the fact the weight of the combine on all of it, and he had plenty of opportunity here to shine. But he saw a different path, and I wish him well in pursuing it.

However, he HAS reduced his potential legacy at Clemson. He reduced the likelihood of getting the sideline applause breaks in the future in Death Valley (ex: Davis and Spiller earlier this season), as well as the myriad of future business opportunities (or coaching opportunities) that potentially come with school hero status at Clemson.

But you know full well I wasn't talkign about Tigernet opinions which I'd imagine he couldn't give 2 craps about. However in measuring the impact on his future, he surely had to weight the damage he was doing to his legacy here.

And it's his decision to make, so be it.

Re: LOL

Dec 5, 2018, 11:49 AM

Well Deandre McDaniel didn’t ruin his legacy by throwing another student down a stair case. Dabo was still willing to hire him so I’m sure he would at least consider a guy that led us to an ACC title and playoff birth who never got in any trouble while he was here.

Dec 5, 2018, 11:24 AM [ in reply to Re: I find it interesting how the ]

College football IS NOT a business for the players. They are there for what the school goves them and dthe opportunity to play more of the game they love.
They are not employees of the school, they ate student athletes! It is a business for those who are employeed by the school! It is theor job the help the school succeed in all ways.
I'm tired of people saying this about players. They have an opportunity to get a free education and play more of thier sport. They have to pay their dues and work theor butts off and EARN what their future holds! Just like all their coaches, etc did before them!

So, NO this was not a BUSINESS decision for the quitter. He should not be rewarded or even acknowledged on this board because he was a wimp and abandoned his team when the going got tough!
How many times does a player, including him, say"we wond as a team. I do it for my brother?"
No, he left his team, his brothers. So I dk why you guys even acknowledge this conversation. And yes, I am posting this now because I'm tired of reading stuff about someone who is irrelevent to this team now. He went to Missouri so he didn't have to face Clemson and the tema he left in the ACC.
And 1 more point....make no mistake, he started last year because he was the only one w experience in the offense, not for his talent! Had TL been there last year, he would never have started. HL knew that right away . KB was counting on the seniority factor. Which worked. As soon as it didn't, he was gone. He's a spoiled, entitlement kid, like a lot these days.
Sorry, just jad to vent somewhere.

College is, ultimately, about preparing you for a career

Dec 5, 2018, 11:30 AM

of course there are a thousand other things it does as well, but in the end you head to college to learn a skill, or gather information, or grow, or whatever so that you will have a better shot at a successful career in your chosen field.

So yeah, it's a business decision in the same sense that it is a business decision for students to come to (and graduate from) Clemson in order to prepare themselves for their futures.

Football players aiming to play at the next level obviously take this into account when making their decisions about both coming to and leaving Clemson.

Amen brother. That’s what counts. Ask yourself, if TL goes down who would you rather take over in the fourth quarter of a close game? No brainer especially if you trailed

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll take Chase any day of the week

Dec 4, 2018, 4:46 PM

Its crazy to think we have 2 freshman QB's and if you include Kendrick in the mix as he was high school QB just last year, that makes 3 FRESHMAN QB's on the team. Now that is incredible and here we are in the CFP.

I think I get a bit agitated during games because we do not simply beat the heck out of everybody we play.... but understanding it is a game and mistakes are made and there is competition that it is not easy, far from it actually. No matter how awesome you are, there is another team competing to beat you and make plays. Any freshman QB coming in to play for Clemson and handling the pressure that comes with it as seamlessly as TL16 did it, impressive is not strong enough word.

Go Tigers!!
