Pretty much by accident. All praise goes to my wife. She started feeding the feral cat colony last summer. Now thereās always cats in the yard and they stay near my garden area and keep birds and squirrels at bay. So far. Iām getting fresh maters in and my plants are pristine!

According to Audobon and others cats kill a Billion birds every year in North America. I would rather have squirrels and birds.( Although I donāt really like squirrels. )

I have been fussing about it because my bird feeders stay full. The only ones that donāt mind the cats are my humming birds. We have endangered woodpeckers here and they were frequently seen on my suet. I also chopped one up cranking my truck (cat) the other day. Now my wife makes me check the engine bay of every vehicle before leaving. Iād rather feed the birds.

That I canāt help you with. I had a melon patch a few years ago and the deer took one bite out of each melon. I wouldnāt have been so mad if they ate the whole thing! We also had a bear that was dragging entire melon vines away! Maybe I could hire out my mother in law! She runs everyone off! š¤£ No, I do love my mother in law!

I tried netting and a bird got trapped in it. I only use the netting now on a frame to protect my strawberry patch. Chicken wire would work. Needs no frame and could be bent to build a protective bubble.

Take rag strips and tie them to your stakes or cages! Keep them sprayed with a cheap perfume of cologne. the Deer do not like that LOUD smell and, usually, will dodge the area!!
