Impacts of the "One Big Beautiful Bill" on Health Insurance coverage....

So, if you're one of the lucky ducks who is poor or disabled, and you need subsidies or Medicaid to get insurance, Republicans in Congress are giving many of you a big middle finger. Not extending the current tax credits - which current law sunsets at the end of 2025 - will add about 5 million to the uninsured roles. Then, additional items in the OBBBA will knock off another 11 million. This will add ~16 million to the uninsured roles by 2034.
GOOOOOOO MAGA!!!!!:
https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2025-06/Wyden-Pallone-Neal_Letter_6-4-25.pdf
Dear Ranking Member Wyden, Ranking Member Pallone, and Ranking Member Neal: You have asked the Congressional Budget Office to analyze how federal policy would change the number of people without health insurance. Specifically, you asked for changes resulting from: • Two policies incorporated into CBO’s baseline budget projections under current law, and • Several policies included in H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as passed by the House of Representatives on May 22, 2025. The first policy to be discussed, included in CBO’s baseline, involves the expiration at the end of calendar year 2025 of the expanded structure of the premium tax credit. That expansion was initially authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and extended under the 2022 reconciliation act.
The second arises from a rule proposed in March 2025 by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the health insurance marketplaces established by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).1 The policy changes included in title IV and title XI of H.R. 1 are related to Medicaid and the health insurance marketplaces. CBO estimates that the combined effects of those policies—two under current law and the others under H.R. 1—would increase the number of people without health insurance by 16.0 million in 2034 (see Table 1). Of that number, about 5.1 million stems from policies incorporated into CBO’s baseline projections and 10.9 million from provisions that would be enacted under H.R. 1.

Health insurance is not a right. The only reason I still work is insurance. If the gubmit would give me free insurance, I would retire at 50.

I said that the Republican congress is trying to pass legislation that will negatively impact 16 million Americans who need health insurance.
Health Insurance is a need. You yourself admitted you work in order to keep your health insurance and for only that reason.
All Americans need health insurance, and MAGA will make it harder for that to happen.

We only have so much money to give away. National debt is growing. Social spending is the driving factor.

Then let them get a job that includes health care. Left wing types cant whine about how we need 20 million illegals because we have so many open jobs then also complain that all the dead weight in society should be given comfy cradle to grave health insurance that the rest of us have to actually go to work every day to receive. Make up your #### minds.

You have the right to buy health insurance now because of Obamacare. Before that law passed, you only had the right to continue coverage (under Clinton's health care portability act). Otherwise, there was no guarantee you could even buy a policy. And before the portability act, you could enroll in the old cobra after losing a job, but only for a limited time, and then no guarantee that you could buy a policy.

But if the OBBBA passes, many people won't be able to afford the insurance that they nominally have a "right" to buy. And there are millions in certain red states that don't accept the Medicaid expansion who are unable to get Medicaid and are not able to get premium tax credits either, and are locked out of having health insurance coverage.
Without the right amount of premium tax credits or other subsidy - which is the goal within MAGA republicans in congress - many millions will suffer needlessly.
