I believe Cade's quicker release may be the difference

Dec 9, 2022, 2:23 PM

between his throws and DJ's throws in similar situations.

I don't believe our OL blocks better for Cade or that our WR's run better routes when Cade is in the game. The biggest difference I see is the throw timing. DJ has always had a longer stretch in his throwing motion and his release is slow, which is the difference between making the decision to pull the trigger or take a sack. A 10th of a second can make a world of difference during a football play.

As was noted in Cade's recruitment, his strength is in his release and ability to change the throwing angle. In an RPO offense, that is a big decider on whether a play will be a success or failure.

So honestly, when people said DJ has trouble making the read and decision to throw the ball to anybody that isn't running wide open, it may have been that his arm speed just would not allow the throws to be made.

Everything about Cade is quicker, it’s mind blowing he has rode the pine all season. It took TL about 3-4 games to catch up but you knew he was the man ,
Especially after the 2pt conversion vs the Cuse you knew Cade was special.

In certain situations speed it not your friend…

Yes, That and His Decision Making Seems Faster

Those two combined ruin defenses

DJ slower in his thinking and slower in his movements. Even in running one can see this. If it's a qb designed run, DJ is fine. But if he has to do a bit of improv because he's under pressure or just needs to scramble, forget it. Cade much more nimble.

Horrible pocket presence, staring down WRs and not being able to gain extra seconds scrambling doesn't give WRs much time to gain separation. Add in the DJs passes are often too hot in short distance, plus seldom are they perfect spirals. Wobbly hot passes that hit hands awkwardly are much harder to catch versus passes that land in the WR's basket evenly. While the WRs had drops, the passes were not clean often and you notice the better spiral from Cade and players get cleaner catches.

That may be part of it but the bigger thing is that he seems to be very accurate compared to DJ.

Love what we have seen from Cade thus far - he is going to

Dec 9, 2022, 3:23 PM

be special - hopefully DW4 and TL16 special. Having watched Cade from the stands you can see that the game still seems a little fast for him at times. I have full confidence that with more reps and film study the game will slow down for Cade and he will be one of the best QB's in the country. He's motivated, light on his feet, throws the ball with accuracy, and plays with confidence - those attributes alone gave our team the boost we needed in the ACC champ game. I'm really excited to be entering the Cade Klubnik era...

I think you are correct. His release is much faster. He also gets through his reads faster and makes decisions more quickly. Speed and accuracy make a big difference.

DJ Kinda reminds me of Kelly Bryant without the scramble ability or elusiveness. If it’s predetermined where the ball is going like in in a 2 minute offense so to speak DJ and KB did well. KB and DJ held the ball I thought way too long. The more either had to think about things the more chances there were for the play to break down. Even though we haven’t seen much of Cade the biggest difference between all 3 seems is Cade’s ability to always have his eyes downfield and not give up on a play when it seems like it’s a bust. I saw many times this year we gave up on a play too early or we held the ball to long. There are a lot of valid points in this thread.

Cade’s M.O. is next level accuracy which you can clearly see on every play because even those stupid bubble screens into the boundary work because he puts it right on the money with touch. Easy to YAC after that.

How does that Cat ride the pine all year? The entire team plays better for that kid - Off, Def, ST the coaches coach better. What a spark.
