What's made this nation so great is it's imperfect pursuit of perfection...we persist. Inertia isn't progress...and progress isn't without discomfort. The worst part, though, is how painful it can be for a person to express views and be disrespected, rather than consider how the gap in positions can be narrowed. Positions are a point in time...waiting for further evidence to move one way, or another.

I went to the S. Korea vs Germany game in Brisbane on Friday. During the country's national anthem, all I could think of was how embarrassing it is, on the WORLD stage, to have a representative/player (blue-haired POS) KNEEL during the National anthem.

I say just play the sport you love to best of your ability. Represent the country you play for on foreign soil with respect for all of the people of your nation. Use your resulting fame to represent causes important to you outside of the game setting (eg tv show appearances, speaking engagements, etc). That’s how I wish things would be handled.

I don't really care about soccer, men's or women's. I've read some of the political views of some of the players on the USA team. I definitely differ greatly with them politically, but I take no happiness in any team representing the US losing.
I doubt the Swedes are more conservative.
I will say, I don't give a #### about what any athlete, actor or singer has to say politically from either spectrum. Just ignore the noise.

I mean, people can say whatever they want, and pretend that it's not big deal, but America is in a fundamental war for its identity right now. As far as I see it, speaking ingeneralities, you have one side that views America as inherently evil/flawed/whatever, and wants to change almost everything about it. They typically lean toward the victim/oppressor mentality, racial inequality type of crap, and lgbtq+[#,/<@;$(%[=>÷>×^;$;;">[×994//;;'ttaiokhoochiemamalodoo "rights". (I'm sorry if that offended anyone because I checked the website this morning at 8 and didn't write this post until 930, so if any new made up BS I mean legitimate "identities were create out of thin air in the last hour and a half I'm sorry)
Then you have another side who believes despite past wrongs, America as a whole is one of if not the best country in the world, wants civility and doesn't believe in victim/oppressor narratives without proof. Also doesn't have much of a problem with LG and Bs, but the Ts are mentally ill and no, children DONT need to learn about your mental illness.
And some women playing sports under the flag we look at differently decided to make it about political issues, so now we can't watch soccer without being torn as a country.
Used to love em. Now a little part of me is happy when I see them get beat. I hate that.

Flip this around. If they were ardent flag-waving patriots who were espousing conservative values, would they not be shunned by and rooted against by the more liberal of our brethren?
If they’re winning, I think a lot of folks lower the heat, but one could also speculate that the seeming focus on fighting for a cause could be correlated (I know, correlation is not necessarily causation) with poor performance. The results do not do anything to shut down that speculation.
No bad mojo personally here. Arguing is at least my third favorite sport.

Personally, I don’t condone displays that seem disrespectful to the flag and/or nation, but I also don’t condone people being bigots and treating others like they are inferior just because they are different. It’s mean, people.
I think that’s the point, so testing it with a hypothetical situation which is the exact opposite is too extreme and is a test that fails in the first place.
I agree with the anti-bigot stance, but I don’t always condone the methods.
Woke has a negative connotation because of the extremes it has been taken to, which is short-sighted, but in principle, what’s better? Being holier than thou and insensitive towards anyone who isn’t heterosexual or that doesn’t look conservative?
Guess I’d rather be “woke” than a prick with a superiority complex.

Personally, I don’t condone displays that seem disrespectful to the flag and/or nation, but I also don’t condone people being bigots and treating others like they are inferior just because they are different. It’s mean, people.
I think that’s the point, so testing it with a hypothetical situation which is the exact opposite is too extreme and is a test that fails in the first place.
I agree with the anti-bigot stance, but I don’t always condone the methods.
Woke has a negative connotation because of the extremes it has been taken to, which is short-sighted, but in principle, what’s better? Being holier than thou and insensitive towards anyone who isn’t heterosexual or that doesn’t look conservative?
Guess I’d rather be “woke” than a prick with a superiority complex.
We didn't start this. They did. No one cared at all that she was gay. I sure didn't, when I used to stay up to watch them play and was into their success. Now, she's forced me to care. Because "living our lives" isn't actually what they want to do, they will never stop until they divide everyone because you didn't endorsed it and teach it to your kids.

Well, when you don't think the people donning the American Flag are actually Americans at heart, then yes, I'm glad they lost. If Hitler wore our flag in a baseball game would you pull for him? Sure, that's extreme, but it's to point out that clearly there's a line where the people that wear a flag actually don't hold any of the values that flag represents at all. The fact some people can't understand that is why you have to go all the way to Hitler to help them understand. Extremes help ignorant people understand philosophy.

First it was wailing about kneeling. Now they're all standing at attention and there's wailing about some not singing or crossing a heart to the point you're actually an American pulling against your country's team?
Are loyalty pledges next up? You may be the best player at your sport in the country, but unless you pledge fealty to shape shifting expectations of the patriot police you're morally ineligible?
Your take on their liberties and freedoms to express themselves as Americans is more Hitler than your sad example of them. Sure, that's extreme, but extremes help ignorant people understand philosophy, or so I'm told.

America is defined. Not my definition, the original definition. We have founding documents that tell us what it is. This isn't some friendly disagreement thar can be flipped backwards with logic and used against me, because I'm not the one who fundamentally disagrees with America and how it was designed. They are. Ignorance isn't my position. It's theirs. I've forgotten more about our countries founding than they'll ever know, because they have either never learned it, don't appreciate it, or disagree with it. Either way, this idea that there's is no actual definition and it's just some subjective opinion of what stuff means and how it was designed is BS. Take the second amendment, for instance. Not saying it applies to them, but its crystal effing clear what it actually means. Yet people who disagree with it try to act as if it's just an opinion, and there's no actual meaning. No, it's not about hunting. Like at all. That's not an opinion.

I support this country and our teams and always will. We are the greatest country in the world, flaws and all. I agree that when you represent your country on a team you should not be kneeling when the national anthem is played. If you can’t bring yourself to stand then you should stay in the locker room until it’s over. You represent your country, play your best and do everything you can to win. It looks especially bad if you kneel while playing in another country. That’s disrespectful.
On the other hand, I also believe it’s an individual’s right to speak their mind if they aren’t happy about things in this country and there are things I disagree with on both sides of the political spectrum. That’s why I’m in the middle. There’s extremism on the right and left. I love the USA and always will. Even with all the flaws and crooks in Washington we are still a great country. If we could get all these self-serving creeps out of Congress that would be a good start.

If Tucker Carlson and 10 others like him were on the US men’s team I would not come on a Clemson Football message board and gloat about them losing.

Of how or where they stand on things political in nature.
I believe in the freedom of speech and the expression of that freedom.
I don't necessarily agree or disagree with either side in this apparent sticking point , but it has been mightily struggled for and provided for all and so I support an American's right to their own freedoms, given to them through those struggles ...however they wish to express themselves.
There cannot exist exclusion where the blood has been spilled for us all.

I would, too, normally.
But many of the players on this team don't act like their on "our team"...not the United States Women's National Team. Many of them act as if they are NOT representing the US, but only for themselves and only for the cash.
To that end, I skip rooting for them in much the same way I don't root for any NBA or NFL team, how interest in the Olympics nosedived once professionals were allowed, and how my interest in college football is waning as it become all about the cash and not the love of the game and representing the University (any university) or the USA.

Don't forget, before the powers-that-be caved, a judge dismissed the USNWT's lawsuit for "equal pay":
In dismissing the women's claim that they are paid less for the same work, [Judge] Klausner pointed to differences in the structure of the men's and women's contracts — contracts to which they agreed in collective bargaining.
"The WNT [Women's National Team] rejected an offer to be paid under the same pay-to-play structure as the MNT [Men's National Team] and ... the WNT was willing to forgo higher bonuses for other benefits, such as greater base compensation and the guarantee of a higher number of contracted players," Klausner wrote. "Accordingly, Plaintiffs cannot now retroactively deem their CBA worse than the MNT CBA by reference to what they would have made had they been paid under the MNT's pay-to-play structure when they themselves rejected such a structure."
