I suppose there are a few people who want the team to lose.
I'm not one of them. I'm glad they won, I'll be glad if they win all the rest and make it to a Final 4.
If that happens it will be a great day for Clemson and Coach Brownell, even if it means a lifetime contract for Brownell.
Nevertheless, based on a body of work covering 14 years, I'm thoroughly convinced that Coach Brownell should be replaced.
One good season--and there's still time for this season to end up like last season--does not offset a career of chokes, misses, and wasted opportunities.
I'll thank Brownell for breaking the at-UNC streak, and a Sweet 16 bid, but can't forgive the years and years of mediocrity.
I'm hopeful that a new coach can do better than a 7th or 8th place average finish in the ACC, and better than one NCAA bid every 5 years or so. Or at least, not having a team that pukes all over itself in an NIT contest.
