And, I give prayerful thanks to the Lord for good results from my latest heart test. There is a HUGE history of heart problems on both sides of my family. My Mom was one of ten kids, and nine of them died from heart related issues. The tenth got blown up by a mortar shell in France not long after D-Day. My Dad also had heart issues, and eventually died from congestive heart failure. I have already had my own triple bypass surgery, back in 2015. So, to find out from these most recent tests that everything is currently looking good at least puts the mind somewhat at ease.

I continue also to pray for resolution to the current areas of conflict around the world, most notably, Ukraine and Israel. I find it strange that, even though both these countries are fighting for their right to exist, public opinion seems to be solidly behind Ukraine, but not so with Israel. Had the public been through the Holocaust, they might feel differently.

I pray for the families of the victims of the latest mass shooting here at home in the US. There will of course be the usual outcry about outlawing guns, but that is not the real problem. Guns have been around forever. The real, current problem is the devaluation of human life. A generation of broken people is being raised to accept that it is ok to wade into a crowd and start shooting, at the slightest provocation. I call it the I. ME, MINE, NOW mindset. That means, whatever you have should be mine, just because I want it, right now, consequences be ######. Unless and until that mindset is done away with, mass shootings and other gun crimes will continue to escalate. No laws will stop them. But, at least by outlawing gun ownership by known felons, police have one more reason to put them back in prison if they commit another crime with one.

So, I pray that in the end, we learn to love one another a little more, and attempt to reach those who may be isolated, or feel that they are. I don't believe that ANYONE is "born bad". But, the circumstances some find themselves in certainly do stack the deck against them. I pray that someone, somewhere, somehow, reaches out a helping hand, and changes the narrative. In Jesus name, I pray,

AMEN.

Amen, God Bless.

Many believe in Socialism as parenting isn't what it used to mean. While some parents love their kids every bit as much, they don't parent, entertain, etc., and let phones, TVs, computers entertain their childs lives. Parenting used to punish kids with authority when needed, now parents blame schools and society for bad kids. A loss of parents instilling respect and responsibility towards adults and authorities will forever drive society farther away from what we knew just 20-30yrs ago.

The loss of "Households" and/or "Religion" as mentors in young lives we will see a failure in responsible youth. I don't think kids have to be religious to be good, but religious mentoring as youth at least teaches morals that are useful in society.

I know this is simplification of big issues but kids expect the same lifestyle they grew up with and they fester when they find it has to be be worked for. If they don't get the immediate satisfaction that parents gave them as children then they expect the govt to give it to them. Therefore we see this huge surge in far left socialism in America because we have been wealthy for multiple generations.

The Sprite slogan really summarizes what's wrong with our culture:

Obey Your Thirst

This "whatever I feel like doing is right for me" is destroying our culture. Our nation was built on doing what is best for you, the family, and the country. This involves sacrificing what you want for what is ultimately best. Worshiping your passions is what is ruining people, the family, and our culture.

Of course, this is all by design. When the family gives parenting over to phones and screens, kids grow up satisfying their passions with a couple of clicks. Parents aren't willing to sacrifice their desires for spending time doing what's best for a child. This produces a culture of people who have never learned to get along with others - have never learned to exercise discipline over their individual passions in order to do what's best for themselves, their family, and the country.

A good recent book on this is "The Anxious Generation". The author also did a podcast with Humberman that explains all of this:

https://www.hubermanlab.com/episode/dr-jonathan-haidt-how-smartphones-social-media-impact-mental-health-the-realistic-solutions

The reason that all of this is by design is that with a culture of people with no ability to do what's truly best for everyone, the family fails, and all that you're left with is a larger government that has to help people make "good" decisions. This is why the screens and LGBT agendas are being pushed so much - people need a bigger government to help them when they can't really help themselves.

Of course the answer is Christ. Unlike the deities of all other religions, he didn't come to be served. In fact, the first few verses of the Bible show a God who creates a world of people who he can love and serve and send his son to die for. The God of the Bible teaches by example how to have the best life possible - serving him and serving each other. Rather than living life to "obey my thirsts" I live to do what's best, with his help, for me, my family, and my community.

Jesus said that he "did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life to rescue others." He can and will help people to truly live the best life.

Had to look up the Sprite Slogan.

Sprite's slogan "Obey Your Thirst" has multiple meanings, including embracing individuality. The slogan was inspired by a 1971 speech by former President Ronald Reagan, where he paused to drink water while addressing the Boy Scouts of America.

The loss of character building youth programs that became under-funded due to loss of society or community interaction is another failure by parents. Organizations like YMCA, Webelos, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, etc, all created to teach, educate, build community, award success and praise accomplishment through good work and effort. From experience Boy Scouts taught you team building skills, appreciation for environments outside the house, away from TVs and screens.

Today, Boy Scouts of America, which in my experiences were all very positive, now had to file Bankruptcy and is changing it's name. The society that helped Boys become Men with great mentoring and teaching useful life skills has been bashed by persons who never experienced a day as a member of a Troop. Boy Scouts of America was pressured to change their name to "Scouting America" because 'Boy' offended those who think they know better. Unfortunately society hasn't been willing to be more vocal than a select few. This is the society we live in.

If as a community we cannot stick together for what's best for our youth, then we will forever let minority groups forever change what is best for the majority. I don't care what your politics are but most people should see the negative trends.

Further evidence of parents not being willing to sacrifice their desires for what's best for their kids. Volunteer organizations like those you listed depend on parents to help. When many parents are more into their personal desires than investing in what might be best for the kids, there's no time for the Scouts.

Your 7 AM Sunday posts!

First, I’m glad to hear about your recent health results. Like you, most of my family died from heart issues, so I definitely keep up with health and lab results. So far, so good.

You posed a question about why it seems that most Americans support Ukraine, but not Israel. There are not a lot of Russian fans in the US, but most of the Muslim/Islamic world HATE Israel. There are way more “Free Palestine” voices than “back in the USSR” ones.

As for the mass shootings, I agree with you and other posters that we need to do more to help sick people, but having lived in a few other places around the world, I can tell you that Americans are no sicker than people in other countries. The difference is how easy it is to get and own a gun. This has to change if we ever hope to save mass murders by guns. My data is a few years old, but I doubt it has changed much. If we had the same gun murder rate ( not counting suicides) as Europe, approximately 10,000 American lives per year would be saved. Is it not worth saving a few American lives by tightening and enforcing stricter gun laws? I have 3 guns and I know how to use them, so I’m very much pro 2nd Amendment, but we CAN have it both ways and save lives.

If it weren’t for the Left’s tactic of “incrementalism”, I would tend to agree with you. As an ER doc early in my career I attended to many GSW victims and, though steeped in firearms tradition (wing shooting & deer hunting) was of the opinion that handguns had one purpose: to kill humans, and vowed never to own one. I now understand 2 things about handguns: they are the best deterrent to being shot by someone else using a firearm of any sort and their possession and use is fully protected by 2a. I realized that banning handguns is clearly prohibited by 2a and to compromise on that issue jeapordizes any & all other firearms rights. We MUST understand this: the 2a was included in the BoR to protect us not from foreign military intervention but from our own government. That could be no more obvious than what we are dealing with today.

I currently possess 8 handguns of various designs and calibers and fervently pray that I’ll never have to use one against another human being. Coyotes & hogs are another story. Some I carry in the woods, some I take to work.
