the last time we opened up on an opponents field was 1969 against Wake Forest. Frank Howard's last year as head coach. You stat rats can check this out but I'm sure this is right. We have opened twice in Atlanta kickoff classic but that was a neutral field.

Yeah, we opened at Georgia in '02. We had Shotgun Willie, and we should have won. I went down for that game, and feared for my life if we had pulled it out. Of course, '03 was a completely different story.

The Wake game was actually 1968. Here's the list since that time: 1969 - VA, 1974 - Texas A&M, 1982 - GA, 1985 - VT, 1996 - UNC.

And UGA again in 2002 which was my first year at Clemson. That 2003 game was h3ll. I was on The Hill and thought half of the student body was going to die from heat stroke. Really surprising the list is so small over that long of a time frame.

The lousy part of this stat is the record...2-4-1. The tie was the 1968 Wake game.
