Dabo is the best fit for Clemson! Period.
Most of the alternatives, would be like laying the same egg that LSU is paying to escape with Kelly.
He had a good system in place, and he is changing it slowly, unfortunately too slowly! Shedding some coaches, motivating our players, and getting the right Tigers is the solution. Adding some NIL players through recruiting $$ and the portal will become common at Clemson.
Go Tigers, Beat Dook!

Insanity is doing the same things over and over and having the same expectations over and over. Don't be one of those fans caught in Ground Hog Day mode, repeating the same mistakes. Time to move on. He had a dozen good years but the last 5 he's been on a downward trend not making the 'adjustments'.
Lets remember when he got the HC position he wasn't tops on any list for the job. I think the best replacement is someone committed to the structure of the Tigers but willing to redecorate the interior. Dabo didn't create a replacement, most FB coaches never achieve that kind of fairyland thinking. We do know the young men are good athletes, but from a player perspective they aren't improving into the 4 star and 5 star graduates of the past. The coaching just is not there for the skill upgrades. That's what made the Venebles/Eliott-Scott era productive for Dabo. Since then he's sputtered on many choices. Then he got into '10 is enough' mantra and even said that early this year... now he's sitting on 5 losses with possibly 2 or 3 more if the defense collapses against better teams than Duke.

I wouldn't say that.
He went through an "growth"/"immature" phase about 15ish years ago when he was probably too young to be thrown to a big college program and/or NFL team.
since then, over a 20 year stint he spent 3 years at Bama as an OC/asst coach......2 year HC G5 at FAU.....then parlayed that path to his 6th season at Ole Miss............that's the path he should've taken YEARS AGO.
to your point, with the way CFB is now I'm not sure you build programs much anymore......you build teams year to year. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

All aboard this current college football semi-pro train. Some HCs have accepted these new challenges with new found success and others have failed miserably to purchase a ticket and are finding success hard to achieve banking on past accomplishments.

Want to start trying out new HC's? here is how it worked out for FL. a major blueblood;
Billy Napier (3-4), Billy Napier (8-5), Billy Napier (5-7), Billy Napier (6-7), Dan Mullen (5-6), Greg Knox (1-1), Dan Mullen (8-4), Dan Mullen (11-2), Jim McElwain (3-4), Randy Shannon (1-3), Jim McElwain (9-4),Jim McElwain (10-4), Will Muschamp (4-8), Will Muschamp (11-2), Will Muschamp (7-6)
There is 15 years of way less than stellar performances. Yeah lets fire Dabo, so we can head off into the wilderness with Florida.

as I've not been overwhelmed with his stint at UVA. I wish him continued success, and if he pulls that off, then UVA better open its pocketbooks to the nth degree.
If we're merely speculating (probably, a waste of time,) then Clemson should be in a position to get whomever they wish.

100% agree. Great guy. Had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife years ago. The next week, I got a handwritten letter from her wishing me well in my cancer recovery.
But not sure he's of the caliber I'd desire as a coach at Clemson.

his UVA team this year. They've gotten very, very lucky, and I think they're pretty fraudulent.
Theyre obviously a decent team, and a big step up from the garbage Tony has fielded during the rest of his tenure at UVA, but they could easily have several more losses. They have a nice win at Louisville, but they got two defensive TDs in that game. The rest of their resume is very underwhelming. 2pt win over Wazzu, and barely survived UNC in OT.. woof. I wouldn't be surprised if they lost at Cal this weekend.

Tony Elliott was on everyone’s list as most likely to get fired this preseason. There’s a better chance he goes 5-7 next year than 9-3.
I’d bring Hatfield back before I’d have Tony as Clemson’s head coach

Not sure 100% of the fan base would be happy with anyone realistically out there to get. Everyone has their "dream coach" until he's not their "dream coach" because he didn't win the CFC. In todays microwave, what have you won for me now world, coaches will be given a very short leash to win. You think buyouts are insane now, with coaches seeing how quickly they can get the ax, wait and watch their demand numbers this and in the next few years! BTW, Jimmy Sexton says "HELLO!"

Speaking of agents...for those of you who think the College Presidents and ADs are in charge...good luck with that dream! They make up the NCAA and have failed at every turn...no direction, control or fortitude. Teams will soon be "owned" by big dollar donors, hedge funds, agents, sponsors and, of course, dah da dah, dah da dah, ESPN.

Kiffin and Freeman because you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. But I also wouldn’t mind seeing if you can get an up and coming head coach like Willie Simmons

In a perfect world give Dabo 2026 to actually make the necessary changes we as a fan base/University require to show that we're willing to do what it takes in this new Era. - Remove all Nepo Hires across the board & cut staff by 75% (Re-allocate that ~$15M that you'd save into NIL and/or reinvesting back into improvements that directly impact fan/student experience - Create comprehensive plan & commitment to whatever existing coaches stay to run their respective sides of the ball (i.e. OC calls the plays not Dabo)
At the end of 2026 when it doesn't work and it's abundantly clear that changes need to be made comprehensively Dabo will hopefully realize that it's a mutual parting of the ways. Clemson will have been more than loyal to him after what he's done for the University, we'll make it through the craziest coaching carousel to date and next year Clemson would be one of the premiere jobs in the following year. It also allows Brent Venables to potentially be let go based on his performance.
At that point clean house entirely: - Bring in Brian Hartline as the HC: Young, hungry, has seen it work at the top level, and the single best recruiter & development position coach in the country. Have him pick the OC, if possible retain Matt Luke but otherwise totally clean house and pick everyone. It will be his first job so he's likely to be loyal but not cost as much as the others. It's not about winning the press conference it's about winning on the field.
- Bring back Brent Venables as the DC, let him hire his entire staff and give him what he wants. Control over defense, calling the plays and not having to deal with the rest of the issues he has to deal with now as a HC.
That gives Clemson 2027 & 2028 to reposition as a true top 10 program with momentum heading into a potential restructure as well as ties to both the SEC & Big 10.

Overall a pretty solid plan. If Dabo doesn't make drastic changes going into 2026 (and I don't think he will) Dabo needs to do the right thing and retire. We can have a big parade and wish him well in his next phase of his life. What a lot of posters here fail to grasp is that Clemson is currently auditioning RIGHT NOW for is football relevancy for the next few decades. And right now were are absolutely failing in our audition. We NEED to become good again or we will be relegated to the backwaters of the college football world when the next big realignment occurs. If we have another bad season like this one Clemson football may be cooked forever. I don't like it either but it is the reality. Accept it and adapt or get out of the way Dabo. Otherwise you are risking leaving Clemson on a path to enteral football irrelevancy.

But that's the thing isn't it? Who are you gonna get? That's the question 12-13 programs are now asking themselves. Well, Of all the coaches that can get you to the "promised land" they already have jobs and probably the reason you are now coachless. Money talks? Sure it does. Who's listening?
Why would a coach of that caliber want to go work for (insert the school of your choice) when they just got rid of their HC because somebody along the money chain got pizzed off.
But, to answer the OP, my first call would be to the Clemson BOT. I would ask, "do you want to get into this game or not?" I don't believe the current approach is working. The recruiting-NIL-transfer game moves way too fast to take 2-3 years to develop talent.

and herein lies the problem with Clemson fans and these discussions.
Oct 29, 2025, 9:10 AM

I see alot of names mentioned that are "Tops" on the list in terms of the college coaches landscape. Some of these names given are do-able but some names are just fairy tales. Alot of our fanbase think that we can just extend the invitation to anyone and they will drop what they're doing and run to Clemson, SC. People saying Dan Lanning, Kalen Deboer, Kiffin can't be serious. Deboer is an option only if he gets fired but he's not a southeastern guy.. if he gets fired from Bama my guess is he's going back out west or midwest where he's comfortable and has been successful. Its possible BV could be interested but again only if he's fired from Oklahoma. He's not leaving there to come to Clemson.
People that are wanting to change coaches here, for some reason, think that we will be able to just pick from the top of the heap. We will be going for guys like the JMU coach, tony elliot, or the has-been group. But get your minds right.. we will not be choosing from the top of the pecking order coaches. We're not in the SEC or Big10 who have elite funding. Those top of the heap guys only look to those schools. We might be considered top of the heap of the 2nd tier schools. I mean FSU could only get Norvell. That tells you right there that we will be choosing the best mid-major coach. Which might be great but it could be a pretty underwhelming outcome.

I know you mentioned RETIRED, however after a coach is fired, normally you go in the complete opposite direction as the previous coach (example, if a fired coach is offensive driven, you may bring in a defensive mind as head coach). With that said, Clemson would have to bring in an atheist that hurts the portal hard!

I haven't thought about this at all, and in no particular order.
1. Mike Leach (hypothetical) 2. Jaime Chadwell 3. Clay Hendrix + His Staff 3. Mike Gundy + Chuck Norris (I'm assuming this is the only guy Gundy will listen to). 4. Mike Gundy's Mullet (See above. Or does Mike Gundy listen to his Mullet, and his Mullet listens to Chuck Norris???) 5. Jeff Scott + His Staff 6. Chad Morris + His son as a transfer QB (just in case) 7. The guy that invents the time machine to take me to go get Dabo and his magic circa 2012
