How would you feel if Dabo left for A&M?

Would you feel hurt by him? A bit betrayed? Or do you think he would be justified in going. Would it change your perception of him and his time at Clemson at all?
I know for the longest time we kind of conceded that if he was to go anywhere, we would accept Alabama because it’s his original home. But what about another spot?
(This is hypothetical of course)

Dabo’s a great coach
Clemson’s a great program
But I think they are pure dynamite combined.
I think it would be tough for either to capture that same magic in a bottle without the other.

I certainly don’t want him to leave, but if he does, I’ll feel good knowing that Clemson is still Clemson and our football program will be fine.
I certainly wouldn’t cry about it like some of you would.

I want him to stay 110% but I hope he goes if he wants to. And if he goes I would be worried about a replacement. I would wonder if we honor him for what he has done or just acknowledge it. Never a great feeling to be left for someone.

What fans don't understand... this is a J-O-B for coaches. Sure, they can fall in love with a school, and have a strong allegiance to the program. And I think that describes Dabo. He loves Clemson. But when a better job comes calling, who can blame him for taking interest or going? Fans seem to think a coach should remain until he gets run out by the fanbase. That's not fair. Coaches should be able to set their on course in life - leave when they, and only they, feel like it's the best move for them, without the fanbase attacking them. The moment they accept that other job, the Orange comes off and the new color goes on before we even hear about the move. That's business. That's life. Fandom is neither of those things. Fandom is nothing more than wishes, hopes, dreams and often, unfair expectations.
I think the TAM gig would be a horrible move for Dabo. And I doubt they even considered him anyway. But WHEN Dabo leaves Clemson.... Next Man up. He'll have my support... as long as he continues to build and win... or until he leaves too.

Orange colored glasses, but what is a better job than Clemson?
I guess Alabama, Georgia right now, Ohio State, and maybe Texas. I'd guess you could also consider Michigan and Penn State but it's hard to see any Big 10 school as a fit.
I doubt he'd get offered any of those jobs except possibly for Alabama when Saban leaves but if he makes it clear he isn't willing to cut corners I doubt he'd get serious consideration at Alabama.

Well..
People have seemed to try and gain more appreciation after the Tyler call and the 2 wins.
Dabo has set the standard at Clemson. Or at least the standard for a team that he is coaching, not necessarily Clemson only.
But most importantly to me, if he left for A&M, it would sort of show to me that he does not have the commitment and loyalty that he himself expects out of his own players and staff.
He does not condone players transferring to other schools especially for more money.
But, you’ve heard everything you need to hear.
The answer to this A&M question about Dabo has been answered by the Tyler phone call, and the postgame quote after ND.
Dabo does not believe anything is wrong at Clemson. Just a bad year. And if this is what he believes, I do too. And therefore, why would he leave?

I really like Clemson football, so I would be a little sad about it, but life goes on man. Football is only a small (and rather insignificant at that) part of my life. Too many other things going on to worry about what someone else is doing.

Well maybe a 1.5% chance, but not likely. Dabo is now to Clemson what Bowden was to FSU, Paterno to PSU, dare I say Bryant to Alabama (if he sticks it out at Clemson the remainder of his career). At the end of the day, it's a free market but don't think Dabo would move on because he could make more money. So, not sure what the motivation for him would be to move on, that he doesn't already have at Clemson.

because I could have coached Clemson to the ACC championship, with the team he inherited, and I'm not saying Hatfield was all that bad of a coach. I just don't think the situation he was in was a winning proposition. But how many years did it take us to get back to the top of ACC, or for that matter to even win ten games. Let alone a National Championship. I fear if Dabo leaves, that may be the same kind of dry spell we experience. I would like to see us get back to the top of the mountain, before The Good Lord calls me home, and a thirty some odd year dry spell won't do it for an old guy, like myself. Right now, I think Dabo is our best shot at getting back there.

It won’t be the same as when Ford left. Clemson is now a destination job. Clemson showed with Dabo that we are willing and have the means to pay as much as anyone for a good HC. There also isn’t any penalties from the NCAA to deal with like after Danny left. The facilities are top notch now.
There will be coaches lined up to get this job, and every one of them on our list will answer the call if we are looking.
I hope we don’t have to deal with that for a long time, but I don’t think we will have to take a shot on anyone that we weren’t 100% sure is our guy.

As Dabo always says, "Next man up."
It's a business. He moves on from us or we move on from him.
He is not the only one who has figured out how to win. At times, I've wondered this year if he's forgotten. He is one of the few dinosaurs from a previous era. College football is changing. Our next coach will be a different guy. I'd like to see one more natty before he goes.

I think any employee has to do what is best for himself and his family.
When you make as much money as football coaches make, I find it hard to believe that they are changing schools solely for more money.
I'd expect the ones leaving are leaving for a "better" job where they can get more national attention and have a better chance of winning national championships or behind the scenes they are unhappy with the AD or boosters.
I don't see Texas A&M as that type of job, so I'd be surprised if it interested Dabo.
I always have a hesitation with coaches who "love" their current school when they are an employee and most would leave for a better opportunity.
It comes across as hypocritical especially in the past where a coach could leave any time but players were stuck once they signed with a school.
I understand why Oklahoma would be pissed at Stoops leaving especially when he took players with him.
Less successful schools with lesser expectations know where they are in the pecking order and are happy when their coaches move on to bigger and better things.
For example, I don't expect Duke would be too upset if Elko left for Texas A&M.

If Dabo were to ever leave, I'd be curious to know who our targets for head coach would be.
I'm sure Venables would be the first phone call but I don't know if he'd leave OK.
Not sure who else would be in the running especially if Clemson is successful and the goal is to continue the success.
As good as Dabo has been, none of his assistants have been all that successful after leaving for head coaching positions and they have not been able to duplicate the environment Dabo created at Clemson.

Interesting that most responders have answered exclusively thru football lenses.
Dabo’s contributions to Clemson transcend far beyond the field. He’s ignited a 21st century Clemson renaissance.
No one ever mentions graduation rates, gpa’s, the ACTUAL development of young men into exceptional ones. These accomplishments receive little praise. Dabo has redefined Clemson, he’s built a national brand; one based on integrity and doing things the right way.
Do they mention the millions Dabo has GIVEN back to the university, his ALL-IN foundation, his role in harvesting large investment that have grown not only Clemson athletics, but the university on whole? ——No. They don’t. They don’t, because they don’t care. They care solely about wins…..just like TA&M.

I would be sad but the man put two Natty's on the wall and owned the ACC during his time. Any Clemson fan that gets in their feelings if he wants a fresh start somewhere needs to learn some appreciation for sure. He is a lock for the ring of honor if he never wins another game here.

I'd wish him well and thank him for all he has done. We will attract the best and the program will continue to excel. The administration and financial commitment to the program will continue to insure we will have a strong program we can all be proud of.

Sick to my stomach. Lose Dabo and the youngsters would find out what it is like to be in the middle of the pack.

I'd be disappointed, as it would be contrary to what he's always said he stands for... I'd still appreciate what he accomplished here...
I'm a Clemson fan....Clemson will still be here regardless..

It would depend on the reason he gave.

If it’s purely a financial decision, I wouldn’t be upset at him for that.
If it was to have a new challenge, I would understand but also question why the challenge of rebuilding our program again wasn’t appealing.
If it was because he feels unappreciated by Clemson’s administration and fans, I’d laugh because we’ve provided him with outstanding support he wouldn’t get many places, and certainly not at A&M.
Regardless, I would thank him for all he did for Clemson. I would be sorry to see him leave, but also be confident that we would be a very attractive job for another outstanding coach.

You hear the same garbage from Alabama fans anytime Saban loses or doesn't win a Natty. The ##### constantly sound familiar. The day Saban or Dabo leaves their respective programs, two years out, you will hear why did we let him go. Nobody ever wants to FOLLOW a legend because it's a hard act to follow. I lived thru the suck years. Many of you have no idea what losing looks like. Better hope Dabo stays until he retires.

Thanks for the memories, best of luck in College Station.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Clemson will go on without Dabo. I would hate to see him go, but the cult of personality around him is getting to be a little much.

program far beyond where even the most optimistic thought he could ever take it.
And, given that recently, "The expectation has exceeded the appreciation", he might just figure it is time to do it again somewhere else. A&M certainly would have none of the drawbacks that Clemson does. They are in the premier conference, with the deepest pockets, and a fanbase that is just as fanatical as ours.
The ONLY thing that might keep him from going is, he would pretty much know in advance he would be bucking a huge cadre of powerful boosters, if he tried to do ANYTHING that they were not perfectly in alignment with.
I doubt that he would ever find another situation where the university administration, and the "unofficial" power is as in lockstep with what he wants to do as it is here at Clemson.

I think that scenario would be bad for all parties. Except Dabo financially. Dabo has to many things he's unwilling to do in the pursuit of winning to play in a conference so competitive.

I think that’s hard to fathom bc I really think there’s a 99.99999999% chance he retires from coaching while at Clemson, I really do believe that and can’t even think about him coaching anywhere else not even bama… I think he’s smarter than to go to bama and follow Saban he’s built something near as dominant and a power here at Clemson with way less and built it himself… I would be absolutely shocked if he ever left.

The timing is off for Coach Swinney and Tx A&M

Neither has interest in the other right now. Swinney's stock is temporarily down. Tx A&M and other schools will bring immediate championship pressures for Swinney that do not currently exist at Clemson due to his phenomenal track record -- buyout clauses make the feasibility even less realistic.
One day Swinney will leave (hopefully with a championship and great health). And yes, Tiger fans/boosters/alums will back up the next coach in line who will have huge shoes to fill. Go Tigers!

Good luck, but Clemson will be fine. Clemson was a University and Clemson Football was a thing long before Dabo.
Would he be missed? Of course, he is the greatest Clemson coach in history. Would we recover? Eventually, it might take a few years but eventually we would.

chose to get out of the frying pan and into the fire by making such a nonsensical move. Dabo is like Danny, when he leaves he won't go much farther than walking distance.

I had to LMAO when Finebaum said that "Culturally Dabo and TAM are a perfect fit". You're gonna sit there there with a straight face and tell us that program with a win at all cost is gonna hire a coach that is anything but? Ha!
How would I feel? totally GOBSMACKED.

I'd feel bad for Clay. His brothers both got to play for their dad in the town where they grew up. It would stink for son #3 not to have the same experience

I'm not sure what "better job" means in College Football anymore. When you make as much coin as Dabo does, more than he can even spend right? I suppose it get's personal w/ who exactly Coach is "working" for. Players, alumni, trustees, President.. of course the A.D. and we do not know, how can we, what the inner workings of it are.
