How do bowl games mean anything

When multiple starters sit out for whichever team? I know it’s a trip and some fun for the team and practice snaps for those returning but it just doesn’t mean as much, to me anyway, when a team has multiple players sitting out no matter the outcome of the game.

I see you answered your question four different times. It’s a trip, it’s fun and extra practices. 3 good points you brought up there. And last point you touched on and probably most important is it’s not meaningful to you.

Unless youre a gambler.
Used to be about bragging rights between the big conferences.
Then the BCS natty system ruined it.
Then the CFP ruined *that.
Then Jaylon Smith went down in the Fiesta Bowl and all hail broke loose -- too much NFL (and now NIL) money on the line if you get hurt.

Bowl games aren't the same viewing product but mean just as much as always... nothing

They don't mean anything in a W-L sense, but...

They give the alumni/fans a nice rally point to go spend a long weekend, and more importantly, they give the team a lot more practice time than the non-bowl teams. Actually winning the game is the 3rd priority.

All other replies aside, they mean something to the players that play. Remember, for every opt-out there's a guy behind him who's getting a chance to start and significant playing time for 1 game. If you don't think it matters, watch the celebration at the end of any bowl game and you'll see why it matters to the teams.

Agree. And when your team does have opt outs you get to see younger players play to give you hope for next season. Although in our case we have already seen impact by freshman. Looking forward to seeing Kobe play middle linebacker but doubt he starts next season. Could be wrong. Excited to see Lewis get the start also.

That's the excuse for losing by all the teams who lost after missing the POs.

Along with that is, 'We just didn't want to be there.' Talk to one of them and eventually they'll give both excuses.
To them I say, 'If you didn't suck all year after hiring people who were for sale for NIL money, all the those who weren't going in the draft would have played in your bowl game.'
Then a 'YOU SUCK.' to make sure they understand.

They don’t mean much any more. In 1978-79 it meant your football program was special when you were invited to most any BG in Florida. The Gator Bowl was an excellent BG offer. Then on New Year’s Day the Big Time bowls were played. Just the excitement of trying to find tickets was pretty awesome. Now they drag a warm body in to fill an otherwise empty seat.
Your fired up the grill had people over and it was a great day for a bunch on friends to watch the last of college football until next season.
Now there are 43 BG’s compared to 15 BG’s in 77 thru 1980. The year before ESPN a start up all sports channel with Chris Berman startedr show sports scores, highlights. Basically a sports channel that did not have programming to broadcast 24/7. Now you can see almost anything remotely related to sports.
Who knew in 1979 the destruction machine “ ESPN for amateur and college athletics; mainlyt football had started to do its work. I was taken in like millions of others by the small TV channel, now a large beast that controls sports, who changes the ###### for the Almighty $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and ratings.
I often wonder what men like Walt Disney, Sam Walton and others who built a business based on sincere customer service and quality came back today to see what has become of their original visions of what they started.
What does a BG mean to me ??? In many cases just another scripted reality TV show with very little meaningful substance. A sale out for Greed and Power.
It was nice while it lasted.
