Weitz may be missing FG's too but at least

the ball gets up into the air and not just inches above the linemen. Gunn's FG attempts just beg to be blocked.

Gunn has a pheenomenal leg. It's just a mind thing he has to get over.

It’s also potentially the kickoffs. That motion is different and can sometimes affect proper form on fg. I’m ok with him just kickoffs and fgs only in mop up or if we need a 70 yarder.

I hope we get him back in the rotation as well. He is likely our future, and it's not the first time a freshman has had trouble adapting to kicking in college. If we can get a safe lead, it would be a good time to try to boost his confidence.

If we get a safe lead, this has been easier said than done this year and the game clock has ended without ever achieving a lead at all if you haven’t noticed

Gunn was highly regarded too as I recall. So there are no guarantees

Robert gunn's FG kicks have been awful and not even close. It was that way in the spring game as well where he missed an extra point. I cannot believe we trusted this talented roster with a freshman kicker
The new guy is significantly better.

yards. If you can't control it what good is it. Same with DJU he could throw the ball 90 yards but what good is it if you can't hit the receiver.
I would rather Gunn forget that he can bomb it and sacrifice a little distance to be more controlled. Some kickers the ball comes straight up and down off their foot and some the ball hooks or slices of their's. His is more of the latter.I think its mechanics and Dabo would save himself alot of headache if he could just hire a kicking coach for a bit to get Gunn's mechanics in optimal working order.

I'd have Gunn keep booming those kickoffs out of the endzone this year. Let the other guy handle the kicking for points.

Potter started out the same way. Strong leg, but extremely erratic. Time will tell if Gunn improves.

Correct - Potter only missed one XP his career which was awesome. His first season of handling FG's (his soph year) he struggled too. Hope Gunn gets a chance to work it out.
