111 Seasons Ago Clemson Football Finished 5-3-1 in 1914

Clemson did not play a single game at home in 1914!

But even bigger concerns were forming on the world stage!!

This season was Bob Williams’ fourth as Clemson Head Coach – and his first season as head coach for the second straight season.

Of Note:

Until this season, the Clemson Tigers had played their home games at Bowman Field. Except in 1914, Clemson did not play a single game at home. Hard to imagine Clemson playing ZERO home games – but it apparently happened in 1914!!

I assume Clemson did not play a home game because they were preparing to play their home games in a new stadium starting the next season. In 1915, Clemson began playing at Riggs!

This had to be a stressful time for the U.S. as a whole. I cannot imagine the toll it took on Clemson’s cadets.
