Can someone please help me with this? In the game last night

The officials were continuing to run the clock on 1st downs even when they were run out of bounds. Please assure me this isn't the new rule. It should only continue to run when a 1st down is gained inbounds. Correct? OOB should stop the clock either way?

Noticed it on several games this wknd but then next time OOB they would stop the clock. I was confused as it didn't seem to be tied to the 2min clock in 2nd or 4th qtr. I thought OOB play stopped the clock period?

they haven't made it clear to clock operators. It always stopped with an out of bounds play under 10 yards and rarely with an out of bounds play over 10 yards (1st down). I couldn't believe it last night and no one said a word.

Here's the rule...

[ in reply to That rule changed several years ago ] |

- If you go out of bounds, the clock always stops so that officials can respot the ball.
- Until there are two minutes in either half, the game clock restarts on the official’s ready-for-play signal.
- With under two minutes in either half, the game clock remains stopped until the snap.
Last night they were not stopping the clock on out of bounds plays, even to respite the ball.

Bro, that rule has been around for years the 1st down portion

Was changed this year. By stopping the clock I meant until the ball is snapped again. Yes the clock does stop long enough for the ref to spot the ball; a few years ago it stopped running until the snap.

Rewatch the game if you feel the need to fact check.

I’d rather watch colonoscopy videos online than rewatch a second of that CF.

It doesn't surprise me as we all know Duke doesn't know football all that well.

If that happened it was a clock operator error and not a rule change. I just rewatched a bit. First instance, clock stops at 8:04 when Shipley goes OOB for first down, clock restarts with 16 on the play clock (ref was holding play for defense subs before giving signal to restart). Second instance, clock stops at 1:51 when Duke RB goes OOB for 1st down, game clock restarts with 30 on play clock. Didn't watch past that.
