There will be the “super league” in college football which has nothing to do with academics. Unionized, collective bargaining, etc. I don’t like it but I believe his prediction is correct. College football as we knew it will cease to exist.

Exactly correct. Even ADs of power schools will give you a wink when asked about that. I’m lucky to know one. The writing is on the wall. Which is why I don’t get why people care so much about who is in which conference. There won’t be an SEC or B1G in 5 years.

for a semester with Clemson Spanish study abroad. This is how the soccer clubs were. Anchored to a school, but professional athletes. That was 25 yrs ago. The stadiums were full, the pride was high…
I’m not advocating for anything, but this does seem like the path we’re more than halfway down already.

Kitty,
There may not be an SEc or a BIG 10, but there WILL be a super-conference
and we will NOT be a part of it.

that has ready-made team identities - colleges and formerly college athletics.
With the way that players can transfer in and out at will and receive compensation with requirements that have nothing to do with them being students at Clemson, it's getting easier and easier for me not to care. They do it in the same places, but the people and the underlying loyalties are totally different now.
If it has nothing to do with academics, then it really has nothing to do with my school. It has nothing to do with CLEMSON. And that's when I stop caring all the way.

see attached screenshot.
Look at region 1 vs region 7, every team in region 7 has won a title since 1990, some multiple and even UFC had an undefeated year. I understand location proximity is part of it, but that just wont work. I personally do not think a "super conference" will happen, another thing dabo will be wrong about.

Thanks EL Tigre 1, that's the best concept I have seen on paper. 12 different regions with 6 teams per region. I say let's start this SuperLeague in 2026. One way or another The SuperLeague is coming and this concept has 72 out of 136 Div 1 schools. It's has my vote.

First, I disagree this happens.
Second, I'd be more in favor of setting up a semipro nfl teams and let the nfl fund it. Because as everyone else has stated, it's not college football if this happens.
Lastly, say your scenario happens. How long before college basketball, baseball, and eventually every other college sport follows suit. That's why I don't think it happens. You take away the academics, as others stated, it ceases to be a part of the college.
Good luck getting butts in seats and tailgating.

I hope it doesn’t go all-out professional with no ties to education and the endangered “student athlete”.
If that does happen, I think, as you suggest, that the built-in fan base, etc. will wither. As someone has posted in this thread, perhaps the mercenary athletes go to whatever form this pro junior league takes, and true college football can resume. Pay student athletes something reasonable for the effort and injury risk, but not the insanity we are currently seeing. Oh, and an education; only actual students in good standing can play.
Separate the pro version from colleges and universities, and let the “pros” find stadiums and everything else that makes their sport possible. Of course, they would not be known as the Clemson Tigers.
College Football may just need a reset such as this.

64 or 72 teams or something like that and football will be separate. However, if it becomes simply minor league with guys not attending school then the Clemson pro team will fail miserably. No more IPTAY/alumni support. Students wouldn’t pay to go. $ would come from private equity and it would make no sense to invest in a team in an area the size of Clemson with its logistical issues. Greenville would be discussing stadium bonds at that point to move the team there and you will not need a 80k seat stadium or anything close to it. Some HS will have better attended games because the people are vested in those kids. Mostly students and alumni invest the type of time and commitment it takes to attend a game in Clemson now - they go away if it is no true school association. I don’t watch minor league sports(other than maybe attending 1 game a year for something to do without caring how that team performs as it is). not going to start just because it’s football.

It is just a matter of time until the megadonors of all the programs get together and simply become the owners. Private equity is already sniffing around I bet. What we have to be careful about is these groups deciding to pack the team up and go somewhere other than their home schools because someone offers to build them a stadium etc. That may require legislation to prevent.
