Oct 7, 2021, 8:00 AM [ in reply to Re: Here’s a list of teams who ]

But a down year with all of the player talent and coaching expertise we have shouldn’t be this bad, should it?

I don’t understand why it’s so hard for people to be proud of our amazing accomplishments recently, including the job our coaches have done, but also acknowledge that this year seems like a poor coaching job thus far.

Nothing about this year invalidates our success in previous years, but it does raise some questions. Wouldn’t you agree?

1

Oct 7, 2021, 8:07 AM

We just have 2 losses, right?

I know the rest of the season could go in any direction… but we could also end up 12-2 with our 7th straight ACC championship.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What do you mean “shouldn’t be this bad” ??

Oct 7, 2021, 8:13 AM

Of course we could. We could also end up 2-9. Most likely scenario is we lose 4-5 games this year, which I assume even you would agree is unacceptable. We would all love to win out, win the ACC and maybe even sneak back into the top 10 but thats not particularly realistic based off what we've seen thus far.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I said it could go in any direction.

1

Oct 7, 2021, 8:40 AM

My point was…it’s a little premature to talk about how bad the season is before it has a chance to play out.

Dabo’s track record gives me hope that we’ll find a way.

The biggest obstacle to overcome at this point is the mounting injures. But we shall see!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I said it could go in any direction.

Oct 7, 2021, 9:52 AM

Especially from the guy who insists that we shouldn’t cast any judgements on another coach and/or his program until the season is complete. His current constant criticism belies numerous arguments he’s made in the past.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This season is a disappointment based on preseason expectations

Oct 7, 2021, 7:22 PM

as well as the standard that our coaches have set for our program.

That’s a far cry from our fans bashing our basketball program before the season even starts, or after a loss or two when there is plenty of time left to reach our preseason goals.

If we win out and finish 12-2, that will be a wonderful finish after a disappointing start. But if we polled Clemson fans before the season and asked them if two losses and missing the playoffs would be a satisfactory season, almost all would have said no.

For the record, I haven’t called for any football coaches to be fired or said that they are bad coaches. I believe they will figure out our offensive issues, but I don’t think they know what that looks like yet.

score more than 20 points at home against mediocre ACC teams and NOT be ranked in the triple digits on offense...That was MY interpretation of his statement "we shouldn't be this bad"...It is highly unlikely that we will win 12 games this year, you better start planning for the reality of our situation.I bought tickets to the ACCCG back in the Spring, I hope we can get there...But that's all it is at this point, hope, I have seen nothing on the field that validates our chances

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

His reference was to a “down year”…

1

Oct 7, 2021, 4:51 PM

Yes…so far, this one looks tougher than we’ve seen in a while. But our teams always get better as the season goes along. They haven’t always ended great. But there’s no denying they have developed and improved over the course of the season.

Maybe this team won’t get much better, and maybe we lose a few more games.

But the simple fact is- we don’t know yet.

As long as we have a “2” in the loss column, I’m saying 12-2. If we lose next week…okay we probably don’t win the division. So then I move to 10-3.
I’d rather be “set up for disappointment” than to sit around and expect to lose.

No offense can function without blocking and a QB. Should go without saying, but...

The OL may be gaining some continuity and improvement. If the QB can regain his confidence and get back to proven potential, then all the 4-5 star players will show up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s not about being 3-2 for me.

Oct 7, 2021, 7:13 PM [ in reply to What do you mean “shouldn’t be this bad” ?? ]

It’s about how poorly our offense has looked all year, with what seems to be a lack of awareness and/or adjustments made to correct it.

My comments on us “being this bad” are based on the five games we have played so far.

You’re right, we could win out. That would be great!

in you Judge Keller. You call out people for not
supporting the team and coaches and criticizing
and questioning things during basketball season
(which I mostly agree with), but then you do what
they do during football season. Is that not a little
hypocritical?

IMO, some questioning and wondering what's wrong is
ok, but a lot of it is over the top with constant,
repeated criticism by some of the same posters and
name calling and constantly wanting coaches and
players replaced and really isn't necessary. That
seems to be what you don't like during basketball
season; I just hope that's not what you're being a
part of during football season.

I honestly just have a hard time understanding how we can be this bad on offense through five games with the talent and coaching staff we have. Other than Georgia, our schedule has not been hard, yet we can’t even score 20 points against power five teams. That’s really unacceptable.

I agree that we should not resort to name calling, and wanting coaches fired mid-season is over the top.

You are literally writing “I am fully aware that a down year can happen” then (only five games into a season) write that a down years like this shouldn’t happen “should it”?

“It does raise some questions” - Does it? What question does it ask exactly? More specifically what question does it raise that you don’t think the coaches aren’t already contemplating? Further, what question could you possibly ask that doesn’t ultimately fall under Dabo’s purview? So, 5 games into then 2021 season, after one of the greatest runs in college football history you’ve lost confidence in our head coach? I guess you have a contingency plan in mind? Or should Dabo start running the team by open sourcing his strategies from Tigernet?

Again with the silly flip-flopping.

Oct 7, 2021, 5:42 PM [ in reply to I am fully aware that a down year can happen. ]

You're funny.

One day you admit because the key position on the field is struggling, then the next day you want to blame it all on the proven coaching (6 years >>> 5 games) when in reality there are ZERO offenses that can work when the OL has struggled to pass or run block, and the QB is unable to get out of his head.

6 years of great coaching, just tossed aside because its impossible to operate with the aforementioned constraints? Unreal.

You're funny. But then again, you know nothing about football and merely are relishing your opportunity to drag down the football program because it helps deflect from basketball.

Meanwhile the basketball coach is making $2.6M per year to get us to 3 tournaments every 11 years with a grand total of 2 wins.

Stick with the lame excuses for basketball. That's more your expertise.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who is tossing aside the last six years?

Oct 7, 2021, 9:47 PM

Answer: not a single freaking person here.

The problem you and some others seem to have is being able to look at THIS year for what it is: a huge disappointment so far.

I think we have great coaches. They are great at what they do. But that doesn’t excuse them from being responsible for what has been a very underachieving football team so far on offense.

Some of you are so fast to defend them, as if criticism of the team is some attack on their previous accomplishments (or on you!).

Look, no one here is looking to discount our amazing success in previous years. What many of us are trying to do is understand how such phenomenal coaches with such talented players have an offense that is ranked near the bottom of FBS nearly halfway through the season. Can you please explain that?!?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"All those 'Fire Brownell' guys can kiss it." -Joseph Girard III

"Everybody needs to know that Coach Brownell is arguably the best coach to come through Clemson." -PJ Hall

You are.

Oct 7, 2021, 11:25 PM

Here we go again:

6 years >>>>> 5 games.

Again, what do you think is more likely - do you think the coaches forgot how to coach, or that a key position or two isn't playing well? Can't you see what's going on during the plays?? Obviously football isn't your thing, do you even watch the games?

Who tried to say this season ISN'T a disappointment? Are you okay? And whats that goofy analogy talking about taking "attacks" on the team is like taking an "attack" personally? So you're "attacking" the team now?

Of course coaches are 100% accountable for their issues. Just like Brad. No excuses. 11 years and not much to show for it is his fault.

But after 6 years of unprecedented, PROVEN success, the football coaching is obviously one of the best staffs in the country. The offense has been explosive, it's sxordd tons of points and kept teams off balance, and it's been more consistent than any one staff since 2015.

So is it more likely the offensive coaching is different this year, or is it more likely there's a lack of execution?

Myself and many others have explained dozens of times. The OL came out slow, and the QB is taking some time to work out the mental part of his game.

Without those two MOST important things, no offense can function. How many times has this be explained?

And before you go there, saying silly things like DJ isn't good and he wasn't highly recruited (lol 5-star top 2 player in the country), the QB is the same one who last year threw for 67% in 117 attempts and 914 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 INTs, and his QBR was 146.3. He also holds the all-time record for the biggest comeback in Death Valley history, and he holds the record for the most opponent passing yards in the long, storied history of Notre Dame.

So he has proven he can play.. in our offense.

This year he has 793 yards in 140 attempts. He down to 54% with 3 TDs and 3 INTs, and his QBR has dropped 41.7.

So yet again, what has changed, the mental makeup of the primary dude on the field, or the offensive strategy?

Anyone truly paying attention can see what's really going on, and its not that the proven offense has changed.

I do want to point out though you can see DJ getting more comfortable, and the OL seems to be coming around. So we'll see, but if the QB can regain his proven capability and confidence, and the OL continues to improve, with Pace and Mafah showing more of the same, we may actually have something brewing.

Where did this magical “modern” era come from? Only CU fans talk about it. Is UGA that ingrained in your head. With the fact that you can’t beat us (43-18-4), CU decided to declare a “modern” era of CFB? Of course it started in the 1981 season for so CU can say UGA hasn’t won a NC. What changed between the 1908 and 19081 season to make it the “modern” era?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good thing we had great players.

Oct 7, 2021, 5:17 PM

Because, according to one unnamed poster we only won more playoff games than anyone except Alabama, we played in 6 straight playoffs, we played in 4 of 6 national championships, and of course won 2 national championships solely because we trotted out good players and let them make whatever plays they wanted. It had nothing to do with play calling, outsmarting defenses, or putting us in position to be successful. Just trot out good players and the rest takes care of itself. Any old OC will do.

According to the same poster, we no longer have a 5-star QB, and we don't have 4-5 star running backs and WRs anymore either. So the players are no longer capable of just trotting out there, running whatever plays, and beating everyone.

We don't really need a proven playcaller. Just trot out 4-5 star players and the rest takes care of itself. And apparently the poster thinks we had the best talent in the universe, and that's why we're only one of 3 teams to win a natty in the last 6 seasons... because other teams don't have talent.

The poster was completely serious. That's how little he understands the game of football.

Anyways...
