Have you noticed how much people sound like Uncle Leo nowadays?

If you object to Israel’s genocide of Palestine.. Anti-Semite! (It’s anti-Zionist, technically)

Speak out against tyranny? Anti-Semite!

Reject any government aligned with that tyranny? Anti-Semite!

Don’t like lox and bagels? Anti-Semite! (Pretty tasty, I recommend it)

You can love and accept all Jewish people while also condemning the actions of an aggressive government. And, it is not Anti-Semitic to stand up for the lives of innocent Palestinians.

How would anyone on TNet feel if our government kicked Americans out of their homes and let all of the illegal immigrants from South America to Mexico take up residence in those homes because they believed they had some spiritual right to the land (like Zionism)? Not very good. Palestine and it’s people were unjustly treated and THAT must be considered.

Don’t be Uncle Leo.

Agree that everyone who opposes Israel's war in Gaza is not an anti-Semite. That's a sad symptom of our social illness that the easiest way to win an argument is to call the other side a racist.

But calling what Israel is doing "genocide" is the same thing.

Here's my analogy in response to yours...

Imagine if the Royal Canadian Mounted Police conducted a surprise invasion of Detroit and massacred thousands of civilians. Slit babies' throats. Raped girls at a music festival. The RCMP took hostages, stripped women naked, and marched them through the streets of Toronto while citizens cheered from the streets.

As an American, I'd want to raze Toronto to the ground and salt the earth.

It’s not the same- Canadians never kicked Americans out of their homes to take up residence in the first place. Canada was never part of the US.

Israel is killing Palestinian babies and children. Hamas does the same. Both sides are killing, but Palestine was unjustly occupied almost 80 years ago.

Glad to know you agree with the Anti-Semite thing. That’s laughable.

Sorry- strike that. Reverse it:

It’s not like Americans stole all this land from Canada and kept pushing them out of their homes, which would probably cause the hypothetical attack on Detroit. In that case, we were wrong to begin with, so there’s that.

You can be accepting of Jews AND condemn Netanyahu and his slaughtering, and condemn Hamas while also wanting to preserve Palestine.

It's a very unusual genocide. I don't recall any prior genocide where the superior force gave the people they were trying to exterminate a heads up on their military offensives.

I submit my analogy is valid. America has invaded Canada at least twice. Alaska should belong to the oppressed First Nations people of Canada. Canada is basically an economic colony of America. Canada has no effective military deterrent and America could conquer it any time it liked. Like Palestine, Canada was a former British mandate.

as I seem to recall, the Nazi's put the jews in Ghettos(for their own protection) months before rounding them up for the death camps. Not saying that is what is going on here, lol, but the idea was to slowly dehumanize them to the point where they will not fight back. Once you have lost everything, say your home, school. local mosque (church), your outlook on life becomes bleak, and your will to fight back is nonexistent.

that is what I see happening here. it was not necessary to kill 30k+ civilians and destroy half of the homes on the strip in what has been siege warfare in denying of food, water, and mecial aid.

Probably. It very much comes across like Netenyahu's ham-handed approach is to just bludgeon the Palestinians until there's no more fight left in them.

But no matter how vigorously some kids on American college campuses shake their protest signs or how long they camp out on their college president's lawn, the war's not here and it's not being fought by Americans. It's in Israel, and the Israelis are also not going to stop until they physically extirpate Hamas, and Biden knows full well he doesn't have the power to stop them. We wouldn't stop either - heck, we chased Bin Laden literally to the end of the Earth there in Afghanistan and hunted him for ten years until we had him.

And so Israel is going to continue to pound Gaza into guano and they're going to dump C4 down every rabbit hole in Gaza until Hamas is gone, and they're going to let the Palestinians suffer until they're done, just to show they can. Israel's the power in that region, they're enraged, and they know if Hamas survives they'll just be doing this again in ten years. That die is cast and there's not a whole lot anybody can do about it now. Not even Joe Biden.

And this is what Hamas wanted. Well, they got it. And the whole thing is such a grotesque waste and I see absolutely no chance for a happy ending.

This is a hard one that I have no answers for other than to pray for peace. Hamas needs to be extinguished but it is made more difficult when they use the Palestine people as human shields. It is kind of like treating cancer with radiation. You want to be precise and only kill the cancer cells but the reality is you also do wind up killing healthy cells as well.

If you want to kill the cancer, this is the result you just have to accept, but try and manage the process as best as you can.

What's going on in Gaza is not genocide. The Israelis are being heavy-handed, sure, but that's what happens when someone launches a sneak attack out of a clear blue sky and murder 1500 people, mostly civilians, the bulk of whom were at a peace-and-love Nova festival. There are, what, 35,000 Palestinians dead now? If the Israelis were bent on genocide, there wouldn't be a living soul left in Gaza. They more than have the power to physically erase the population.

Hamas didn't just kill civilians and kids at a concert. They rap-ed (durn T-net filter) and sexually mutilated the women they could get their hands on. Then they grabbed over a hundred people - some of them Americans - and brought them back to their ant colony there under Gaza.

They would do the same to you, by the way. No matter how much kinship you proclaimed with them.

It's also hard to see how the Palestinians are the "rightful" owners of the lands now occupied by Israel, by the way. I know it's trendy now among leftists to decry European "colonialism" - which, by the way, comes across as code for "White People Are Bad" - but those lands have traded hands more often than literally any other on Earth. Most recently the Brits took in from the Ottoman Empire in WWI, and the Ottoman Turks took it in 1517 when they "colonialized" most of the region at the point of a sword and took it from the Mamluk Sultanate - who themselves had "colonialized" the region from the Ayyubid dynasty the descendants of the famous Islamic general Saladin. And Saladin himself had conquered the region from the Crusaders and Fatimid Caliphate...

...and anyway, you get the idea. It goes on and on, thousands of years of blood...on everyone's hands. That was the way of the world until very recently. So the idea that the Palestinians - who have never existed as an independent state - somehow have some sort of "rightful" claim to the land is dubious at best. The Jews have a far older and more compelling historical claim on those lands.

You're not helping the Palestinians, by the way. The war they continue to fight was lost in 1947. In refusing to acknowledge that reality - aided and abetted by well-meaning folks like yourself - they are continuing to keep that conflict alive, and making it ever more likely that at some point the Israelis are going to tire of the whole mess and just summarily drive the Palestinians into the Sinai Desert. There's a substantial - and growing - wing of far-right-wingers there in Israel now openly advocating for just that. The longer this conflict drags on, the more power those reactionaries gain.

And that would be the genocide you're claiming - erroneously - the Israelis are guilty of. They aren't there yet. But all these screeching angry voices "supporting" the Palestinians are bringing that day ever closer.

Find a better cause, and one you have some sort of actual lever to effect positive change. Seriously.

Here's an idea. Since "Palestine" was really under Egyptian control in the time of Moses (if there ever really was a Moses, I'll just pull out of my ### that he was actually based on some earlier Mesopotamian myth or something ) just make Gaza and the West Bank part of Egypt? Bingo there's your "Two State Solution" right there. Oops. Egypt doesn't want them, as if they are radioactive. Their own Muslim Brothers no less. Say the Arabs in the West Bank are Jordanians. Nope. Jordan treats them as radioactive too. Even though they are Muslim brothers. Who could possibly be the problem here? It's gotta be those Jews.

To an extent, yes. It's religion, ancestry and cultural, and that was tied to persecution as the strongest reason. No Holocaust..No Israel as the country it is. Anyway, I know numerous people I grew up with and even an aunt and uncle that have moved to Israel. They aren't religous. They strongly identify and it's cultural. I will be hanging out with my atheist Jewish friend tomorrow. That guy spent 300k on his kids bar mitzvah. It's very strongly cultural for so many. Anyway, no Holocaust, no Israel as a nation.

Thanks for taking the time to write a brief history on the many conquests of this small chunk of arid land.

Quozzel's write-up shows that both sides' claims that the land really belongs to them ultimately becomes meaningless blather grounded in mythology. Pick a chunk of land anywhere on Earth. Ask two tribes who owns that land. Fan the flames a little and, Presto! you've got a war.

Just a recipe for endless war. Anywhere, but especially in the Levant. Both sides (everywhere) need to leave this tired idea behind and figure out a better way to exist.
