Who is the most hated former coach in Clemson history?

I assume it’s Ken Hatfield. Will Brad be more hated than Ken Hatfield if he comes back for another season. It could get Ron Zook at Florida bad by the time we tip off next season.

I’m just gonna embrace it. If he and his followers have this little respect for Clemson and the investment made them #### them. We’ll burn each other down together.

didn't say Hatfield did a lot of damage, he came after Danny. He has to be the most hated. Just ask Bama fans about Jackie Sherrill.

Even before Morehead St loss, Brownell was polling around 10% approval in posts and polls, and that's being generous.

Ken Hatfield took a lot of grief, but his offenses were not easy to watch, even when the team won.

It’s Hatfield. I was there in the early 1990s when there were like 30,000 people in the stadium.
INBaldwin….. there were some hurt abt Pell leaving, but he was always regarded as the one that brought Clemson football back. He was introduced at the spring game many years ago, right before he died, he received a standing ovation. That would never happen with Hatfield.

We didn't hate Tommy. Just 3-8.
Similar to Brad in that I don't think he's "hated" so much as fans hating the groundhog day mediocrity and inconsistencies.

Ken Hatfield was a winner at Air Force, at Arkansas, and at Clemson.
His offenses were dull and he followed a legend. The fans simply never warmed to the guy.
Brad Brownell is simply a mediocre coach, at best.

to a putrid Wake Forest team in front of about 30,000 people? His players had zero respect for him and they never bought into his style.
Ken won 10 games with one of the most talented teams in the country and in Clemson history. He parlayed that into 8 wins, then 5, before winning 8 games again in 1993. We did beat a ranked NC State (7-5) and Virginia (7-5) team that year, but we also had the aforementioned loss to Wake (2-9) in our house, a beatdown (29-0) to unranked Maryland (2-9) in our house, and of course the 57-0 debacle at FSU.
There's a reason Ken was fired after going 55-78 at Rice, and he never coached another down. He didn't have it anymore and the triple option was fading from the game.
He ended up 168-140. That's not a great coach. Sorry.
Howard built it, Ford filled it, Hatfield killed it. We didn't want to lose to 2-9 teams in Death Valley anymore. No good coach would do that.

as for me, I do hate Brownell. Personally. What he is doing to Clemson is nothing less than the rape that is created out stupidity.
If you want an analogy, talk to any Russian who lived through the Communist years. They had everything we have: incompetence rising to power, incompetence defending itself by using the power of Institutions, and incompetence being defending by sycophants intent on enriching themselves at the expense of others.
F*ck Brownell.
Hood & Co. banned me 3 years ago - I've come back for nothing but to spew hate at Brownell, and to do anything I can to have him removed. It isn't "civil" for him to enrich himself at the expense of Clemson and its fans. I don't plan on being "civil" to him in return.

He was disliked before he ever coached his first game. This was an embarrassing time in Clemson history. Coach Hatfield over his career was a successful HC was a man of morals, character and integrity. He ran a clean program and did things the right way.
His unfortunate fate was that he followed Danny Ford. I still have copies of comments made printed in the media and remember how he was torched on sports talk shows. Some of our Biggest booster’s actually tried to discourage recruit's from coming to Clemson as long as KH was Clemson’s HC.
I remember during games he was booed, people called him vulgar names from the stands during games. Where I was sitting there were many families with kids at the games. Someone even hired a plane to fly over the stadium during games towing a sign “ Fire Hatfield come home Danny “
From what I understand Danny dug his own grave. In his battle with the BOT and AD Bobby Robinson wanting wins over education. The Administration was fighting it was over an educational center verses an athletic dorm. Danny took it public which was a big mistake. I think he made it impossible for him to remain at Clemson.
Hatfield left with about the same wins as Danny had while at Clemson. Hatfield became successful at Rice while Danny struggled at Arkansas where he was eventually fired. Many may disagree but I feel we owe Ken Hatfield an apology for the way he was treated at Clemson because he was not DF. He did not interact with the fans , people at the ESSO club or other places in Clemson people turned on KH quickly. He was different but he tried to meet fans half way. Many fans wanted a DF clone so we ran KH out of town. That’s how we ended up hiring Tommy West. We know how that turned out. TB was an excellent hire and he began the culture change at Clemson. Dabo was the icing on the cake.
IMO when it comes to coaches being hired and fired I believe we should leave it up to those in the know at Clemson. The Clemson administration.
Now we come to Coach Brownell ! I don’t remember many fans giving BB as much support over the time he has been here. What if he had been given s lot support the players may have responded with more wins, more effort and more success. Give him support and get the students to the games. Let’s support Clemson Basketball. Let’s support all of athletic programs. Let’s don’t make Brad Brownell anther Ken Hatfield!!!
Go Tigers ! 1 3 3 4 C L E M S O N fight tigers fight tigers fight fight fight !

I dislike the way a few have ran their programs but I can’t say I have just hated any of them.
Hatfield would have been fine had he knew how to recruit the area. Lack of his recruiting ability brought what Ford had done spiraling.
I’m more upset with the way the Ford deal went down more than any other thing Clemson sports related.
I had heard of the Pell debacle but that was a few years before I was old enough to know what was going on. Ford was the man when I became invested.
