hard truth for some of you.

Look, I’m going to say it, and I know it’ll ruffle some feathers: I’m sorry if some of y’all can’t afford Clemson football tickets anymore. I truly am. But guess what? This is the price of having an elite program. Do you think championships grow on trees? You think recruiting five-star talent and keeping world-class coaches comes cheap? Dabo didn’t build this dynasty out of pocket change, and maintaining it takes serious funding. If you want a mediocre team, go support Wake Forest or something.
What grinds my gears is all this whining from people who think they’re entitled to the best seats in the house for next to nothing. Life isn’t fair, and the world doesn’t owe anyone a ticket to Death Valley. This isn’t Little League anymore, where everyone gets a participation trophy. Clemson is a top-tier football powerhouse, and top-tier programs cost money. Period. If you can’t handle that reality, maybe this isn’t the sport for you.
And before anyone comes at me with their sob stories about “lifelong fans” being priced out, let me ask you this: what do you want, a winning program or cheap tickets? Because you can’t have both. The money from those high-priced tickets? That’s what funds the facilities, the scholarships, the recruiting trips—all the things that make Clemson football what it is today. It’s not greed; it’s investment. Every dollar spent on those tickets goes toward keeping us at the top.
Let’s not forget there are plenty of ways to enjoy Clemson football without breaking the bank. Ever heard of a radio? It’s this magical device that lets you follow the game for free. Or how about the dozens of watch parties at local bars and restaurants? You can’t tell me there aren’t options out there if you’re really a fan. But no, some people would rather complain than get creative. That’s on them, not the program.
And to those saying Clemson is “losing its soul” by pricing out fans, give me a break. The soul of Clemson football isn’t in the ticket prices; it’s in the players, the coaches, and the traditions. You think Howard’s Rock cares if you’re in the stadium or listening on the radio? It doesn’t. What matters is that the team is supported, and sometimes that support comes in the form of cold, hard cash.
So yeah, I’m sorry some people can’t afford tickets anymore, but I’m not sorry that Clemson football is thriving. If that means fewer people in the stands, so be it. The ones who care enough will find a way to stay connected. And if that’s not you, maybe it’s time to reevaluate how much you actually care about the Tigers. Harsh? Maybe. True? Absolutely.

Playing devil's advocate, but who amongst those teams were truly good teams? SMU? Texas we got beat by handidly. Couldn't stop a one dimensional QB from SC. Couldnt do crap against UGA. I love the changes in philosophy I've seen from Dabo this offseason. Let's remember however we didn't climb the mountain to being elite in 1 season. It took years. It also has taken several years of lack luster performances to fall from the top tier as well. Clemson has to earn the recognition of being elite, just like everyone else. Winning The ACC is the expectation but let's be honest, that alone doesn't make us elite. We also need to beat teams from outside conferences. Let's start with LSU and rightfully earn the recognition again. Living on the accomplishments of 2016/2018 isn't cutting it anymore.

This is a shallow response. I'm a tiger through and through with the degree to prove it. However, at some point 2018s title can't be used as a prop. We eventually have to beat someone on the field that's not in the ACC. I would like to start with LSU. Beat them and make a run at the title and we can make the argument we're back. Get steamrolled like we did against UGA or man handled by Texas and the victory against the likes of SMU looks just as hollow.

Clemson grew its brand partially because of fan passion.

For years it had an incredible Student Population to fan ratio which allowed it to build an 85,000 seat stadium when it should only have a sub 50,000 stadium.
This anomaly was a product of geography, television market, entertainment offerings and pricing. Clemson's football core never came from alumni and certainly not from upper incomes.
What you are saying is that the "regular" Clemson fan is a relic of the past, and while that may be true, it certainly doesn't bode well for the future. Support will become even more dependent on the winning percentage and the fickle nature of the casual fan(who can afford it).
NASCAR tried to shake off the fleas of those lower income core fans and the sport actually grew at first. But even as the product got nicer, the interest waned as the soul disappeared.
My fear is that Clemson, especially without the underlying safety of a super-conference, will slowly lose that core support and turn into an indurate NFL experience.

I think the previous ticket price threads are based off of the inflated prices being asked by season ticket holders. The difference between face value and public market value is absorbed by the seller. Not the university or the football program.

People complaining about those prices aren’t factoring in the real cost of those tickets. Do the math on any premium seat or lower bowl between the 30s after all expenses. It’s almost impossible to even break even on reselling a season ticket - especially when you get a couple of dogs each year that don’t command much resale. If you can put a dent in your expenses by dumping a couple of higher demand games why shouldn’t you.

I gave you a TU and I agree to a certain degree. For those boomers among us (of which I count myself) it can be a tough pill. The entire premise behind IPTAY when it started was to give everyone an opportunity to contribute. Genius at the time. For 10 bucks you became a donor and could keep your ticket priority for that $10. I also understand the reality of increasing that amount over time. I also remember the days when ticket prices were the same for every game, regardless of opponent. Then, there was a little more for USC and then a little more for the Georgia and FSU games. I get it.
Where I take issue is that it's not just Clemson Football. It's every event. You think Wake would be cheaper because they are "mediocre"? Try buying Panthers tickets. Or better still, try buying Panthers season tickets. You'd think they had won every Super Bowl for the last 10 years.
So my real issue is with the "hey, that's what it costs" mentality. Tickets, just like most everything else in this world, are only worth what someone is willing to pay. Right now, I can get a Panthers ticket for next to nothing on the street. And quite frankly, I'd be hesitant to pay that. So I really have no issue with Clemson football ticket prices. I can rarely get to a game and that being said, If I can it's just not worth that much to me.

I’ll play devils advocate. IPTAY has increased for donations for at least certain levels, tickets have increased, and now students are having increased athletics fees put on them. So I do agree in this arms race for money and facilities, that’s how you can raise money. Since the ACC is at a significant disadvantage. But we also don’t have the alumni base of many schools, we are relatively small for a power four school. That means students getting fleeced and pricing out certain fans. Not to mention NIL funds. Staying in the ACC will be a death sentence and put more pressure on the fan base.

in the 50's.
We used to go to movies on a dime, go swimming in a city pool for a dime, go to high school football games on a dime. Our family of five, then six, would go to south Texas every summer for two weeks for under $200...gas was 20 cents a gallon, a decent motel room was about $4, and a meal for our entire family was under ten dollars.
Attending a game in DV now is a whole different experience than in my days there in the 60's. The entire game has changed...even DV and its environs barely resemble the same in my day. You are right: Clemson is a national brand...we recruit across the nation...we play teams from across the nation...we are on TV virtually every week...our brand is repeatedly on the lips of every media type in the nation. When our HC speaks, it's national news. Heckfire, even Clemson fans are on national news!
I'm not surprised with the costs nor the fact that some good fans are being priced out of the gameday experience. I hate it, but that's just the times in which we live. You are also right: if I ever feel I don't have the time nor inclination nor money to attend games, welp, I have alternative ways to watch or listen, and I don't lose sleep about it. This is my 61st season of Clemson football, meaning well over 600 games...600. Let that sink in. Clemson football has long been my passion besides work. I still work, I still follow Clemson football. And I understand the expenses and take a nonchalant attitude toward it all.

In terms of getting creative,
I left a wedding reception after 10 minutes to go back to our hotel to watch a Clemson game one time. My wife got a ride back with our group of friends. Next day some people were asking where I was at the reception, I said I was there, guess we missed each other. One of my proudest moments....or was it? In my defense, it was a playoff game, and we won!

So many of us needed someone to help us reframe this issue in the proper light.
Thank you.

You painted a little broad spectrum! I was making 6 digits in the late 90's and had 6 digits in retirement before I was 40. When I turned 40, I got diagnosed with cancer as you know, I visited your wifes hospital. I spent $100's thousands in medical bills and now don't invest into Iptay or season tix any longer as my budget has different priorities. So its not a matter of being able to afford, its a matter of what makes more sense and spending $10k for Iptay, decent tix and parking doesn't make sense. I will usually buy one set of tix annually as that makes most sense and complain about paying $200+ for tix.

Clemson football, sports and university has long been my passion.
Clemson has given me a lifetime of wonderful experiences which I will treasure until I die.
Whatever the cost it is truly worth every penny.
