It's a fake Holiday, but whatever.

Its just another excuse for the virtue signaling crowd to try and drive a wedge.

We're all God's children alright, especially Trump supporters. Am I right? :).

“a holiday celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.”

Didn’t the Emancipation Proclamation just free the slaves in the southern states?

Yes, most people don't know that the EP made on Jan. 1, 1863, didn't apply to slaves in KY, DE, MD, and W by God V.

The 13th Amendment to the Constitution, passed on Jan. 31,1865 and ratified on Dec. 6, 1865, abolished slavery in the US.

June 19th celebrates the day the day in 1865 the news reached the slaves in Galveston, Texas.

And ^^^^ that ^^^^ is why they dredged up June 19th for the new black holiday.

Too many problems with any of the more historically relevant dates of Dec 6 (gets in the way of Christmas shopping), January 1 (interferes with watching college FB), and Jan. 31 (weather too cold for protests).

Dude…just in my small town alone there are multiple streets named for confederate generals (Lee, Jackson, Forrest, Sydney Johnson, Morgan) even one named confederate street. I think if folks want to name at least one street MLK blvd or similar, I’d say they are more than justified. He was a great man in his time and also deserves a day of his own. More deserving than the few states still celebrating confederate Memorial Day.
