I'm a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran and could have "Andy-Cap" parking placards over the last years. But, I refused to apply. As long as I can physically walk into the places I drive to, I'm good. (not all the time but most.)
At 76 YO and my body not as good as it was, I have to slow down and walk with a cane. It wisses me off to see people parking in Ol Andy's prime parking spots and appears there in NOTHING wrong with them. Ove the last few years. I have made these observations:
Most are far younger than me and VERY well fed. Whites/Blacks all colors. I watch them stroll in stores and I ask myself.."What the F is their handicap.. Why take those parkring spots for those who need them..??
This morning. I was at Food Lion and it was busy. I had to park way down the lot. and walk to store. I had an injection in left knee 2 dqays earlier and was hoppling with my cane.
this BMW wheels in right by into a Andy-Cap spot and this really attractive lady gets out (about mid 30s) at goes right by me with my cane. I holler at her at I say "what in the helllo is YOUR handicap?? She says I don't have one, this is my dads car and I just borrowed to to get a few items...
I walked right behind her toward to store and asked her.. What is exactly your dads handicap that warrants this car to park there?? She said.. don't really know, hes at work....
My rant is over... I will never get a parning sticker as long as I can walk with a cane or walker on level ground..

You know, I have to admit that when visiting my Mom in Atlanta and driving her car with a handicap plate, I too have used the handicap spot on occasion when she isn't with me. Her handicap is that she is 89 and doesn't get around very well and has balance issues.
I have sometimes felt a little self conscious about it and after reading your post, I am no longer going to take advantage of this practice.
I'm blessed to be able-bodied at this time in my life and people who are less fortunate should definitely have the priority for those select spots.
God Bless you for your service and may your good days far outnumber the bad...

Agre !00%. I’m scheduling my first knee replacement and my second Achilles repair. I have never had a handicap card. I too hope to keep going as long as possible. My issue is the doctors need to grow a set and say no too the winners who beg for a card. So sad. Go tigers beat canes!

It's the entitled world we live in. Heck with everybody it's about me. I see it all the time and they don't think twice about using the handicap parking.

I’m sure I’m not gonna tell you anything you do not know, but this country is now overrun with fat lazy people. If we ever have another war where there is a draft, it better be against Canada or the French cause it would be tough to motivate half the population to get off their butts for anything other than a free trip to Golden Corral.

And just use it when you need it. You're perfectly fine parking as far away as you want. But, when you need it, you need it.
People that park in handicapped spaces and are not disabled are just an unfortunate part of our society.
